An undercover sting featuring an underage minor ordering alcohol Friday resulted in servers at seven Peachtree City restaurants receiving court citations, police said.

The seven establishments cited included Carraba’s Italian Grill, Irish Bred Pub, Chin Chin, Chopsticks, Ruby Tuesday, Mike and C’s Family Sports Grill and El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant.

Each of the servers must appear in municipal court to answer the charge, police said.

Police said the sting was undertaken due to complaints received about alcohol sales to persons in Peachtree City under the minimum drinking age of 21.

The operation was run by the Peachtree City Police Department and the Georgia Department of Revenue’s Alcohol and Tobacco Division.

Another eight businesses passed the test of the undercover operation, including Mellow Mushroom, Outback Steakhouse, Taco Mac, Ted’s Montana Grill, The Red Room, Big Daddy’s Oyster Bar, Y-Knot Sports Bar and Beef O’Brady’s.

You shouldn't talk about something like this, unless you talk about the alcohol rehab program that should be attended by every person who has this kind of problems.

Since none of you cynics will say it, let me be the first:

Thank you PTC Police for doing what you do every day.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to co-ordinate with state agencies and make sure our local businesses are not breaking the law. Despite what sniffles thinks, underage drinking is a serious problem and often leads to other crimes. I am sure most of the PTC citizens are happy that you set up periodic stings to remind local restaurants to take our laws seriously and train their employees properly.

It's truly sad when our citizens take positive news about a successful operation by our own police force and not only ignore the opportunity to congratulate them but actually go out of their way to insult them!

I think our police department is doing a great job but I guess you all must have a better view from up on that pedestal.

I had hoped when disgraced police chief "Jimmy the Perv" Murray tucked tail and slunk out of town last year that the Peachtree City police department would refocus themselves on fighting real crime.

Sadly, the above article shows they still have a long way to go.

Rather than doing the "heavy lifting" parts of police work....investigating burglaries, etc, our police department still has the Murray-era mindset of "entrap, entrap, entrap".

I find it beyond credibility that someone complained that 15..FIFTEEN!.. restaurants in PTC were serving underaged minors. No, this was simply bored police looking for cheap headlines on one of the busiest nights of the week.

So pat yourselves on your collective backs, Peachtree city police. You got a minor (a McIntosh beerleader, perhaps?) to sweet-talk a bunch of servers into serving him/her a beer. As chief Halifax "Skip" Wiggins might say: "That's some might fine police work there, Lou."

I'm not condoning underage drinking in public establishments, I just question whether this episode is the most efficient use of police resources.

If we have so many idled officers on a Friday night that they have to go out and create crimes to solve, then perhaps we should ask the city council to do some serious review of staffing levels at the Peachtree City Police Department.

Well said. It is very troubling knowing that the robbers who robbed the music store in The Avenue, the McDonald's on Hwy. 54, the Ruby Tuesday, the Dollar Store, the tire store (I think you get the picture) are still on the loose while the PTCPD shakes down burger joints.

It makes me sick. Here we are, seeing a spike in crimes (in one of my previous posts I provide data on the rise of crime in PTC), crimes that are very real and a threat to the people who live here, and they're off sending in attractive teens to try and convince their server to serve them alcohol. Talk about misplaced priorities.

WOW....HELLLO!!!!
DO you not realize that the teens that are getting alcohol are probally going to get on their golfcarts and go home. SO it is A HUGE issue. I don't understand why you guys think its not important if teens are getting ALCOHOL!!!

Were they really serving teens or just not checking ids?

"Most of the teens I know have told me they get theirs from their parents stash."

That's exactly what I did when I was a teen and first sampled alcohol, and the very reason we secure the liquor cabinet when our teen has a slumber party. So, lock it up, parents!

Was of something like Beast or PBR or something equally atrocious.

I was like 10 or 11. It was so skanky tasting that I've never been able to enjoy a beer since. But I dig plenty of other adult beverages.

I agree parents need to lock it up and, better yet, set a good example.

Doubtful tho'. Which is more prevalent in PTC: the teen boozing or the teen prescription pill poppin'?

If only we could put this kind of energy and manpower into the cart paths and preventing property damage.

First, I need to tell you that it works this way: it only happens when the state or federal officers ask the locals to go along as a signal that they are invited.
Just like the ATF people do for the Sheriff's department on the "drug busts"
Only the state, or usually the feds, have the know how and proof, and organization for such things, unfortunately.

This not to say that complaints didn't bring in the outsiders---obviously the local police have little or no interest in this or maintaining order inside a Fayette business of any kind unless by direct sworn complaint. They usually try to talk you out of a written complaint! (they don't care how many mail-boxes are destroyed or graffiti is performed, or how many cheerleaders are drunk---without a direct complaint.
I used to know a court judge in a town who was hauled home every Friday night by the police instead of arresting him for driving or thumping things, dead drunk. The judge on Monday would sentence others for DUI!

The "Heathen" bars in PTC passed the undercover sting. Family establishments... BUSTED!!

...the "heathen" bars value their license more, and hence are more careful.

Plenty of family-friendly places on the list of those that passed the sting, too.

Good point. I consider Taco Mac a great place for dinner with the family. Good people working there too. Good job Taco Mac PTC.
