Long-time sheriff's veteran passes awaySun, 12/07/2008 - 10:28pm

The man who headed up the Fayette County Sheriff's Drug Task Force for the past eight years died Saturday after a long bout with kidney cancer. Capt. Michael D. Pruitt served a total of 27 years at the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Prior to that he served as a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Harp's Crossing Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Following is the obituary notice published by the funeral home: Capt. Michael D. Pruitt, of Fayetteville, died December 6, 2008. He was a loving husband, loving father, and a great Papaw. He was a special agent with the GBI, and then he later joined the Fayette County Sheriff's Department where he served for 27 years. For the last 8 years, he served as Captain of the DTF (Drug Task Force). The Lord called him home after a year long battle with kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Dianna Pruitt, daughter Michelle & Andrew Garrett of Sharpsburg, son Jamie Pruitt, daughter Mandy & Derek Brown, and daughter Danielle Pruitt; 6 grandchildren; parents A. Dwain & Helen Pruitt and sister Pam and Charles Cowart, all of Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Harp's Crossing Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Watson will officiate. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. login to post comments |
