Two Fayette schools and one Coweta school were named as Georgia Schools of Excellence this morning. Ironically, Huddleston Elementary and McIntosh High schools tied for top honors for being at the tops of the 3rd congressional district. Northgate High School was selected for having the greatest continuous gains in student achievement in reading and math, officials said. Both Fayette schools were honored for being in the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia as measured by reading and math assessments, officials said. The three schools will be feted along with Georgia's other top schools at a banquet Jan. 23 in College Park. "These schools are getting great results from all students in many different areas," Georgia School Superintendent Kathy Cox said. "The teachers, students and administrators at these schools truly represent excellence. Congratulations to our 2008 Georgia Schools of Excellence." Cox taught history at McIntosh before she was elected as superintendent. login to post comments |
