A 15 year-old Newnan girl who ran away last week was found safe in Tennessee and has been reunited with her family.

The parents of Elizabeth Marie Campbell found an instant message on her computer indicating she was running away. The computer message said the girl would try to hitch a ride to Walland, Tennessee or Maryville, Tennessee to meet a 17 year-old male, according to Newnan Police Chief Douglas Meadows.

Campbell was located in Maryville a few days later after hitching a ride to Virginia and then to Tennessee, Meadows said. The girl called the home of the 17 year-old male after arriving in Maryville, unaware that the woman posing as the boy’s mother was a detective with the sheriff’s office.

Campbell gave the detective her location at a local truck stop and police soon arrived at the location, Meadows said. Campbell was found in good health, he said.

Things did not go as well for the truck driver that had provided Campbell with a ride to Tennessee. He was arrested at the scene on drug charges, Meadows said.

Meadows said the 15 year-old’s parents left for Tennessee later that day to meet their daughter.

How precious…the parents left to pick her up. How sweet! If she was mine daughter she’s have a very difficult time sitting down for the ride home, if you get my drift. She’d think twice the next time for sure. How do say…spare the rod?
