Tyrone’s Vacation Pay Investigation Goes to D.A.

The Tyrone Police have finished their 3 month comprehensive criminal investigation into the alleged misappropriation of public funds. The Police report has been sent to District Attorney Scott Ballard. After former Town Clerk Valerie Caldwell testified to Council last June 10 that Mayor Sheryl Lee gave her permission to pay herself and Town Manager Barry Amos $36,000 in accrued vacation pay in clear violation of the Payment Plan Ordinance, an investigation into the matter began in late July. The D.A.’s report includes an internal review of the employee payment plan and audit of other records. When the Tyrone Council refused to safeguard taxpayers’ money, the Police were brought in. The report has not yet been made public.

And how that would affect Barry or Valerie in their new jobs with another city. Do they have to pay it back if it is determined that the payments to them were "Inappropriate" or is that just going to be overlooked.

You know better than that. Ain't nothing gonna come of this. Tyrone's lawyers will bill the city $50 large ones to investigate (in order to avoid their own further layoffs) conclude that "there is not quite enough evidence"; Ballard will do nothing to anyone remotely close to anyone in power; GBI will sit on their hands. Ballard won't even do anything to the interlopers from Clayton. Better yet-- Barry and Valerie will threaten to sue for defamation and get a golden parachute in settlement. C'mon--- how long you lived here Bobby ?

Any amount over $500 is a felony. Tyrone lawyers wouldn’t do an investigation, nor would the council. Everything is always secret in government. Secrecy creates suspicion and suspicion creates a lack of confidence in elected leaders. Barry & Valerie may be totally innocent. The problem lies with the council for not bringing out all the facts. It could be that mayor Lee gave her permission to Valerie without knowing the law. Not knowing the law is a daily activity in Tyrone. Ignoring it is also common. Safeguarding the public interest is the main job of elected reps. If the council had proper oversight, the issue would never have come up. ptctaxpayer is most likely correct. Nothing will come of it. Government always protects government and not the taxpayers. Government likes to blame those who seek the truth and call them trouble makers. The real question is, what does the investigation reveal? The D.A.’s office says the results won’t be publicly available until January.
