‘Alarming’ number of illegal students

It is very alarming how many students attend our schools who live in other counties. These students do not have the background that our longtime students have. Therefore, they are bringing down our test scores which will cost the taxpapers more when the federal funds are stopped or decreased. These scores are very important to our funding.

The issue is more than people simply stealing services from our county. We are dumbing down the classes for these out of county students. McIntosh has already slipped. And, of course, Fayette County High is slipping fast.

Wake up, school board. Do your job. Arlene Law, who is supposed to be overseeing this issue, will not even return anyone's phone calls. She refused to take tag numbers that people try to give to her to check out. Why are we paying someone like this? She works for the taxpapers. Hire someone who can do the job.

Perhaps Fayette County will open their eyes after the latest guide to schools in Atlanta magazine, Fayette County may want to call themselves one of the best school systems in Georgia, but they are falling behind in technological advances, community based activities for students, and professional development services. Colleges are expecting more and more from students and Fayette County is offering less and less. On top of all this Fayette County can't even manage their school system to make sure the correct students are here. They may have one glowing school in the county but people in all the school districts are paying the exorbitant taxes and all our kids should be getting the same education. I'm hoping that people will skip the county stop and start petitioning the State Board of Education to observe the schools in the county on a regular basis to get the real statistics of our schools instead of the recorded ones.

I keep hearing this woman's name. I have only talked to her once about my kid who lives in Fayette county going to a different school in Fayette where we live and pay taxes. I must say she answered the phone and was nice to me. This was about a month ago, she neither gave me hope, nor discouraged me, she was earnest in helping me and gave my choices. I think this woman is becomming a 'scape goat'. I retired from Delta and this happened to me a lot. The people who ...SHOULD... talk to you, couldn't be bothered, and you are only left with someone who would like to help, but can't, they are as powerless as you, they can't say, the people in charge are jerks, @@jjs etc. They have to stand there and take it cause that is what they are paid to do, meanwhile in their minds they would love to see you get to the right persons to vent. Your anger, in my mind, should be directed at the people on the schoolboard. They want the glamour, but no responsibily laid at their feet.

Am I the only one who thinks it ironic that the much maligned Ms. Law lives a few yards this side of the Clayton County line right near the River's Edge community which produces more than its fair share of illegal Fayette County students?

What are you saying? Arlene Law is involved in helping illegals into the school system? That's not even close to being possible. Be careful what you are saying about people when you don't know the facts. I've met this lady and she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer but she's no criminal mastermind.
