Sandy Creek Cheerleading takes 7th at State

Sandy Creek High School Cheerleading represented Fayette County well at the State Competition in Columbus, Georgia over the weekend.

Placing 4th in region 5-AAAA at the region Championships at Whitewater High School on 11/1 allowed the Patriots to compete at the State Sectionals competition on Friday 11/7 for an opportunity to compete on Saturday 11/8 for a State Championship. The Top 8 teams from Fridays sectionals moved on to Saturday's Championship.

Sandy Creek placed 3rd on Friday behind 1st place Northgate also from Region 5-AAAA, 2nd place Harris County and ahead of 4th place Whitewater High School also from Region 5-AAAA.

On Saturday Sandy Creek competed against 15 of the best Cheerleading Squads in AAAA. At the end of the day they Placed 7th. The State Champions were Northgate, 2nd place was Starrs Mill and 3rd Place was Whitewater. Fayette County High School also advanced and competed as one of the top 16 Co-Ed teams in the state, however I am not sure where they placed.

It is a tremendous accomplishment for the Sandy Creek sqaud, unranked all year, and able to place as one of the Top 7 Teams at State. Even more impressive is that they accomplished this with only 2 All-Star Cheerleaders on the floor.

This is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the entire Sandy Creek Cheerleading squad and tremendous Coaching by Head Coach Ashley Watkins.

Congratulations to all of the Region 5-AAAA squads for showing why our region is year in and year out, the best in the state!

Although Sandy Creek's seventh place finish is laudable, it may be of interest that for the second straight year North Gate High School Cheerleaders won the state title. I appreciate the nice article you have written and don't understand why this newspaper has not published the results.

Starr's Mill High School in Fayette County was the county and region champions this year and finished second in the state.

Third was also a Fayette County team, Whitewater High School. I am not sure what place Fayette County High School Finished in either and know that McIntosh did not compete due to the suspensions of their cheerleaders.

Again, I wish the paper would report the results - not just the disciplinary difficulties of the student athletes that cheer.

Congratulations to Sandy Creek and all of those who competed this year from our local area and beyond.

For two straight years the top three teams in state were all from this region.

Maybe you should realize that this is a blog which means it was posted by an individual not the paper. If you want to rant and rave about what the paper is or isn't doing, start your own. This blog was intended to congratulate Sandy Creek for working hard and going from being unranked all season to finishing 7th in the State with mention of all of the region teams and where they finished. But you had to somehow make it about you and your problems. Get a life!! Oh, and by the way, if you would go to the Sports section and look instead of complaining all the time, you would see that there is an article with the results! Again, congratulations Sandy Creek cheerleaders for an awesome season and to all of our region teams that worked so hard: Northgate - State Champions, Starrs Mill - 2nd place, Whitewater - 3rd and Sandy Creek - 7th

A trip to the final four in Softball, a State Championship in Volleyball, and an undefeated Region Champion football team. Not to mention an excellent Model U.N. Team, Math Team, and the Highest scores in the County on the Georgia High School Writing Test!

Congratulations to SCHS and may it continue to be a stellar year!

Don't forget about how well the band did at competitions this year. Sure, SCHS might have its down years, but those are few and far between.

They should have fixed Shamrock first.
