FreeSpeech for 11-05-08

Why for the last two years do a few city employees continue to try and force the citizens of Peachtree City into a contract with one provider for curbside pick up? We do not want this; we will not have our freedom of choice taken away not even for our trash pickup. We are adults capable of making our own decisions. Please investigate why these employees are wasting taxpayer dollars and time to keep pushing an already defeated proposition. How much of our time and money was wasted this year? Who is responsible for them and why are they out of control? What do they gain other than more power and control? When is enough, enough? We want to know.

Two tunnels and a bridge, all to accommodate golf carts and pedestrians. The two tunnels have been in place much longer than the bridge, and the bridge has been in place for almost two years. All that has been needed is three short sections of cart paths to connect to the bridge. The fourth path section, on the west side of the bridge, was completed prior to the bridge installation, complete with paved path, and landscaping. You can drive through the tunnel, in hopes of connecting to Huddleston Road, but the owners of what appears to be a landscaping business, on the east side of Huddleston Road, have blocked the dirt path that had been made by cart drivers. And these property owners standing in the way of this project are all akin to Wall Street CEOs. The second section of cart path is on property that was owned by owners of The Avenue, according to The Citizen (Oct. 22, 2008). The Citizen stated that PTC had offered those people $14,420 for the property, based on property appraisal, and The Avenue owners, Cousins Properties, countered with an offer five times the amount that PTC had offered. I believe that no other offer to buy that property would have ever been made, to Cousins Properties, unless someone wanted to put up a lemonade stand. It is bordered on two sides by the railroad tracks and Ga. Highway 54, and the other side by Books A Million parking lot, and several large hardwood trees that Cousins Properties could probably care less about. And now that Cousins Properties has sold the property to PTC, give thought to the other end of this tunnel: it goes directly into Ethan Allen parking lot. Is their home address also Wall Street USA? Just sign me, “a golf cart driver.”

Early voting on Monday started out to be a wonderful and rewarding experience. The lines apparently started forming before 8 a.m. By 8:15, the lines had grown and everyone settled in for a wait. The group seemed to be very friendly and many comments were made about how great it was to have so many people vote in this election. Some read, others chatted quietly. It was a testament to what common sense and basic manners can do in what otherwise could have been a very unpleasant way to start out your week. Except for one man. This person had two iPods and had the sound on so we could all hear during most of the wait. He had it pointed out to him at least twice that his listening choice could be heard (loudly). Apparently he thought we all needed to be exposed to his questionable music taste and a political speech by one of the candidates. Isn’t there something about no campaigning within a certain distance of the voting areas? Most people in the line just looked at each other in disgust as this gentleman totally ignored the basic good manners required to stand in a line for a long period of time. After being asked to turn it down twice, I think people just gave up. I think some of us were afraid of being considered racist because most of us were white and he was not. That is ridiculous, but has become the world we live in. How very sad.

Does anybody know what are the functions of the park’s monitor? We have seen his car parked in front of the Glenloch Recreational Building many, many times. He never gets out of the car, the engine always running, stays for some time and then he leaves. How much do the taxpayers have to pay for this?

- - - - - - - - - - -

Kudos to science teacher Edinger in his, “Not just wealth” letter to the editor. What an absolutely perfect and simple example (by spreading the “highest” grades around) of why Obama’s plan is just downright unfair and undesirable. Unfortunately, though, the message couldn’t be any more clear, but get ready for the deluge of counterpoints supporting this kind of system. They’ll go something like this: “My child is not as gifted as others.” “This teacher has it out for my child.” “My child is involved in several sports and cannot afford the extra study time required in science.” “My child suffers from attention deficit disorder and is, therefore, at a greater disadvantage.” And the list goes on and on. With a few (diehard, but admirable) exceptions, the core principles of responsibility, accountability, and hard work have all but faded from the ethical fiber of this country. So, let’s face it: as long as the number of them continues to outpace the number of us, we’re in for a losing battle.

- - - - - - - - - - -

The Braelinn PTO president didn’t deserve to be trashed in the newspaper. She has served the school generously and her time and efforts have benefitted our school and children. If you had a problem with the email, the bigger thing to do would have been to contact her rather than anonymously attack her and the PTO, giving audience to the community.

- - - - - - - - - - -

The Braelinn PTO is a wonderful organization led by a dedicated, amazing president. We are so fortunate to have her and our children benefit greatly from her tireless efforts. If anyone does not want to receive her emails they could send her a civilized email requesting that they be removed from the list, or they could do what sane people do and delete the emails that do not interest them. Instead, someone sent a cowardly, bitter attack to Free Speech. It makes me sad that there is such an ungrateful, vicious person in our otherwise supportive and friendly school.

- - - - - - - - - - -

Is it just bad timing that, within two weeks of the Tyrone Council’s decision to scrap impact fees that would have funded a new police station, they “discover” mold and structural damage in the existing police station? Or is it part of Grace Caldwell’s master plan to eliminate Tyrone? Who now will have to pay the costs to correct these problems? Guess they must be looking for another reason to soak the taxpayers. They already are going to raise taxes to repay the developers for impact fees collected and now even higher taxes for this decision. Where is the accountability and fiscal responsibility they claimed they had?

- - - - - - - - - - -

The majority of conversations these days are about where our taxes are going and how the taxes will help the community and go towards the schools and the other areas of government. Presently, the Fayetteville Pavilion area is unsafe with the dangerous activities going on there, specifically reported at the movie theater. If the Pavilion does not get their act together and try to fix up the area and make it more safe for people to shop, the people are going to stop shopping there. And the people will start going to Newnan because it is a much nicer place. However the people from Fayette County shopping in Newnan are supporting Coweta County and not the county they live in, especially if the SPLOST is passed. Not to mention that if we go to Newnan the stores at the Fayetteville Pavilion will suffer. So after all the events that happen at the Pavilion it should be a wake-up call to them that they need to clean up the Pavilion so kids and other people are able to watch a movie or shop without the fear that something could go wrong.

- - - - - - - - - - -

All Fayette County citizens need to check their mailboxes for the special package to be delivered after the Nov. 4 election. The Fayette County Board of Education is going to be sending your own nose ring that is customized to accept their tailored leash. You see, a small but powerful and well-connected group in this county, among them number the Fayette County Board of Realtors, all Fayette County educators and employees and our elected officials, have been pushing for this tax increase, regardless of whether or not we actually need it. As tax revenues are down across the state and everyone is having to make do with a little less, this porky group is not only wanting to maintain the status quo, they want to grow at the rate they’ve been growing. Never mind that attrition has thinned their ranks by 63 employees, they just pushed through their millage increase. They have prime acreage for sale next to Inman Elementary after that sweetheart deal. They have at least one elementary school more than they need. Now they want all of us to pay 1 percent more for every dollar we spend in our own community. You better ask yourselves who is paying for all of those ESPLOST signs and banners throughout the county and why, and why the ever-vigilant Fayette County marshals are leaving these signs alone. Yet they pull up every other one in sight. Look at the credibility issues that have surfaced at the Board of Education for everyone that is clamoring for this tax increase. Finally, and think about it, everyone who wants this tax increase is telling you it is necessary for maintaining our high standard of education, but they are not changing one thing in their budget to make this happen. They are counting on making it on the backs of the Fayette County citizens. They aren’t tightening their belts or getting non-Fayette County students out of our schools. Wake up and hold them accountable before you look around one day and wonder why we pay so much just to be mediocre.

- - - - - - - - - - -

Someone needs to inform the idiot driving the blue Lexus GX470 in High Grove that they put stop signs at intersections for a reason. You never slowed, you never looked, you just blew through the intersection and came within a couple of inches of having the side of your vehicle crushed. It’s a good thing one of us was paying attention to what was going on.

- - - - - - - - - - -

There is something terribly wrong with a system that allows one man to walk into a company, dismiss half the workers, freeing up the money that would have been paid in wages, and creating a false appearance of improving the company’s financial position. Then that one person takes all that freed-up money as his own compensation. Soon thereafter, the company goes bankrupt and that one person walks away with millions of dollars in separation pay as a thank-you for bankrupting the company. The workers then go home with no job and no retirement to eventually lose their home. That one person then goes to one of his million-dollar homes in Hawaii or in the mountains or on the coast or in Europe, or South America, etc., to plan and scheme for the next company he will loot. That one person is called a CEO.

I received some more bad news a couple of days ago the cancer has now spread to my brain.

I’m consulting a couple of specialist and will be making a decision on seeking additional treatments or just letting nature take its course.

I want all of you guys to know that having your support over these last few months has meant the world to me. The compassion that you guys have shown to someone that you’ve never met is truly remarkable.

Oh, man.

I am terribly sorry to hear this. Not knowing the details, I am hardly in a position to encourage you in one direction or the other. But I do hope that you have the strength and the will to fight this monster tooth and nail.

As you already know, I share Tug's positive assessment of the physicians and facilities at Emory. And I do believe that the Great Physician knows a trick or two. I'll be talking to Him about you this evening. I hope He sees things my way.

Hang in there, buddy.

I did receive some treatment early on at Emory and I have absolutely no complaints with the quality of care that I received. Actually they referred me to the team of doctors that’s handling my case now.

I will be having surgery to remove the tumor. See my latest post to Cy.

I do believe the Great Physician will be guiding my surgeon’s hands and I put all of my faith in him.

I appreciate your prayers and well wishes and I want you to know that I have been inspired by the way you and your family have handled this most difficult year with Mrs. Muddle’s health issues and the loss of your job.

I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and will pray for Mrs. Muddle’s complete recovery.

I learned only recently from my sister-in-law that, last year when my wife was so very ill and at Emory, one of the doctors told her, "Her organs are beginning to shut down and it is just a matter of time." She realized that I had inferred as much, though no one had ever been this straightforward with me, and so she had elected then not to relate that to me.

When my wife pulled out of that nosedive, the various doctors on her team used words like "surprised" and "astonished." One of the ID doctors told her, "Most people in the condition you were in do not get to come home from the hospital."

I learned to pray during that whole experience. I'll never forget a day when she was sleeping in her room and I sneaked off to the chapel. I prayed the most earnest prayer of my life, pleading with God to spare her for my sake and for that of her children and grandchildren.

And this was a time when praying in general was more like breathing. It wasn't something you "remembered" to do. It was spontaneous, necessary and unavoidable.

To this day, I remain convinced that God was merciful to us, both providentially, in the fact that we found ourselves in such good hands (how the decision to go to Emory was made is a story unto itself), but also directly, as these excellent doctors themselves seemed stretched to their natural limits.

So I do believe that our prayers are far more significant than a mere talking into the air. And because I believe that, I have already begun praying for your situation.

As for my job situation, do you remember the line in Genesis when Joseph meets his brothers years after they had sold him into slavery and he had subsequently risen to a prominent position in Egypt? "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good." (Something like that, anyway.) The outcome is still unclear, but I am already courting several colleges and universities where I would be much more likely to flourish. In all honesty, I was miserable where I was and, for the last two or three years, had regularly talked to my wife about resigning. The only thing that kept me from doing so was my fear of an uncertain job market. It took something like this to force my hand.

I received a call yesterday afternoon from one of the specialist and he thinks the best way to attack this brain tumor is to take it out. Since it is still small in size he thinks that it can be removed with out causing too much damage. Lord knows I don’t have a lot of brain matter to start with so I told the doc to be extra careful.

The surgery will take 4 to 6 hours to perform and I will need to have extensive chemo and radiation treatments afterwards.

He said that I may lose some motor skills but I should be able to regain most of them back with therapy. His exact words it’s going to be a long hard road.

We will be leaving tomorrow to travel up North and the surgery will most likely be performed on Wed. of next week.

I will be out of commission for a while so I have asked my son in law Greg to register on the Citizen to give you an update on the surgery.

I look forward to meeting you guys for coffee once I recover.

Please keep me in your prayers.

Add me to your friends here that will pray for you and your family. (I assume God will know who Wulf is when I pray.....).

I lost my sister in June to brain cancer. Hers originated in her brain rather than spreading there. She made it 2 1/2 years after being diagnosed. If I may gingerly offer advice, keep an open mind. Emory and UAB both recommended experimental therapies rather than traditional chemo. They gave her Gleevec which is oral and typically used on other cancer types. There is no doubt it gave us additional time, and it was quality time.

She fought that despicable enemy with such grace and determination. She is my hero. You are correct about keeping the spirit, it works. I have no doubt you will not give up.

May God and your friends comfort you and your family.

Gleevec is one of the drugs among others that I am currently taking.
This is my second time fighting this disease I beat it the first time and I am not ready to give up now.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your sister. Cancer is a terrible disease that not only takes its toll on the person afflicted with it; the whole family suffers as well.

I’m sure your family still suffers from the loss of your beloved sister, but take solace in knowing she’s in a better place and will never have to suffer again.

I thank you for the well wishes and kind words and I pray that God brings comfort to your family.

Thank you for the kind words about my sister. You never want to let someone go, but knowing she is in a better place makes it easier. We were all with her at the end and I kept whispering to her that it was ok to go. She was worried about leaving all of us and I wanted her to know we would be ok. You are so right about the families of the cancer patients. I often wondered selfishly if I would have been better off if she had had a massive heart attack instead that day she was diagnosed. But, I realized the answer was no. We had time for more family vacations and three more Christmas celebrations. I pray you have many more yourself.

I found out more about brain cancer than I ever wanted to know through my desperation. I never knew there were over 120 different types of brain tumors. As you said, it is truly a terrible disease. But, it sounds like you have great doctors, a great attitude and a great support system of family and friends and that is key.

I read earlier this evening about your surgery next week. As delicate as that surgery is, it appears that combination of surgery, radiation and chemo is the way to go. Those of us bloggers here who pray will be sending them up for you and your family. Fight on brother Wulf!!!

"All Fayette County citizens need to check their mailboxes for the special package to be delivered after the Nov. Wake up and hold them accountable before you look around one day and wonder why we pay so much just to be mediocre"

The Realtor group has a sizable vote, and is very well related to the developers. They make the money, and we pay the price. When I sell my house, it will be 'for sale by owner' or Zip, or a Coweta broker. It will be listed in a way the local bunch won't make a dime.

As for something another free speech writer said about the SPLOST and the Pavillion. They are correct. With the exception of PTC, Coweta is nicer place to live and better shopping. The BOE just took one of the few perks from the retailers here by adding their tax. This place is going down.

Already, Sandy Creek, Fayette County High, and Whitewater High, scores have been out shined by all 3 Coweta high schools. People are leaving and you are getting Smola's vison and handy work, and it ain't pretty.

For the time being I wll just keep looking at yours-----ahh, yes, master, I will go to my safety deposit box and take out everything and send it to Cyclist. Yes, master I promise to vote Democrat in the next election. I feel so sleeeeeeep----zzzzz.

We'll do an easy one so you can get the hang of it. First go to Google Images and and search the word "MYTMITE". If you can't find one select something that catches your fancy. Let me know when you found one. Then we'll proceed.

Yikes, it picks up The Citizen Stuff. Just go into Google Images without searching for "MYTMITE" and look for an image you like.

Could only bring up ones from Citizen. Couldn't bring up any others. Don't know how to get on google without getting off this site--told you I was a computer novice! Have to leave now but maybe next time we both are on here you could walk me through it? Thanks so much for your help. Have a good evening.

If so, or even if not--hope he zaps that liberal bug soon. Like many liberals it can get annoying! Always running around in circles and getting nowhere.
