Why I voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin

Fred Garvin's picture

Because McCain:

is not George Bush.

is an American Hero.

has served his country since he was 17 years old.

has shown proven leadership.

has shown proven bipartisanship.

crosses party lines, even when it is risky.

takes a stand on tough votes, not the easy way out.

was right on the surge, and will end the war safely, and with honor.

wants to reduce federal spending.

wants to lower taxes.

will protect jobs.

will not bankrupt coal companies and cause our electric bills to go through the roof.

will protect our veterans, and fight for them.

believes in the promise of America, capitalism, and all it has to offer.

wants to protect social security.

will end loop holes in Washington.

warned of the impending Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac crash.

has an healthcare plan that will limit government involvement, and work for more Americans.

promises to end earmarks and wasteful spending.

will protect our borders and keep us safe.

has a plan to meet labor needs, and address the undocumented workers.

pays his female employees equal pay.

promises to increase the number of women in Washington within his first year.

has an aggressive energy plan to get us off foreign oil.

supports amniotic fluid and adult stem cell research.

believes in constructionist judges, not ones that favor one group over another.

will support and defend the second amendment.

has released his senate and medical records, his birth certificate and his donor list.

risked his candidacy by believing in, and selecting a woman as his running mate.

has a running mate who has more experience than the other candidate for President.

has a running mate who has executive experience, more than any other candidate.

has a running mate that does not go behind closed doors and threaten impending doom.

does not speak one way about Americans to their face, and another way behind closed doors.

does not hide his campaign contributions.

accepted campaign finance, as he promised.

does not associate and befriend anti-American, anti-Semitic, racists, or terrorists.

does not make empty campaign promises.

earned his nomination by the voters.

does not continuously lower his definition of rich.

never gives up, never tires, and continues to fight.

values and respects the accomplishments of Hillary Clinton.

values, respects and fights for the American flag.

is a maverick.

is a straight talker.

is an honest man, a man of his word.

has never once called me racist.

or bitter.

or selfish.

John McCain is a man that, when he says he will do something, I have every faith that he will.

And those are things that can not be said of Barack Obama.

This is why I was proud to cast my vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Doesn't look like anything different going on in the South as Virginia and NC don't look anywhere near as competitive as all the polls indicated. I wouldn't be surprised if Chambliss beats Martin by double digits either. State is very Republican, folks. Florida(part of the south or not varies)looks like Waterloo for McCain, though. I don't see him having any chance if Florida goes Obama and Obama has a 6 point lead with close to 40% of the vote counted so far.

Thanks to early voters (plus we probably picked a good time of day) voting was a breeze this morning. I took longer at the booth than I did standing in line.

55% of registered voters voted early at our precinct.

There was a fantastic article in the WSJ last week about the politics of ice rinks, specifically the new one in Wasilla, Alaska.

Evidently, Mayor Palin was right, just like Dar Thompson....those things do draw major regional events, particularly if they are "multi-purposed".

Buried in the article, though, was an admission that, even in hockey-mad Alaska, the ice rink ran a six-figure operating deficit per year. Shocked

Election Fraud in Philly

"GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in more than half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.

A liberal judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could NOT be removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening."

Of course this is happening. Laws don't apply to Democrats.

Three more things to keep an eye on in the Keystone state:

1) State operatives are reporting that calls are being made to Republican voters in Lancaster County telling them their polling stations have been changed.

2) NBC News is reporting major "voting obstacles" at at least eight different polling stations in PA. Broken voting machines are listed as the main problem.

3) Two Black Panthers have allegedly blocked persons from entering a polling place in Philadelphia. One of them is said to have brandishes a nightstick. An eyewitness told Fox News one of the Black Panthers said "We're tired of white supremacy."

Yeah, yeah JeffC. I know, someone is just making all of this stuff up.

GOP Files Complaint Against NAACP

Republicans say six black men wearing NAACP t-shirts intimidated voters at a Villa Rica North precinct in Carrol County, Georgia this morning.

Carrol County Republican Party Chairman Terry Agne filed a formal complaint against the NAACP with Georgia's Secretary of State Karen Hendel this afternoon.

According to the GOP's complaint obtained by Townhall, "Six black males all over six feet tall wearing yellow jackets with the letters 'NAACP' displayed on their jackets and who wearing picture name badges entered the precinct. Two males stood guard at the front doors and the other four men proceeded to walk in and browse around the judges tables and thus leaning over the judges while voters filled out their voter forms, thus in violation of voters rights laws."

The complaint says the men were not poll watchers and that the GOP believes the men intended to take similar actions at other voting precincts.

"We are demanding that the NAACP supply their names immediately without delay so that charges will be forthcoming against these individuals," the complaint concluded.

For once, my political antagonists, I can agree with the two of you. I believe that it goes without saying that Barack will indeed mourn his grandmother. Like cyclist, I feel that he must have a 'big hurt in his heart'. Respect and empathy for the Obama family is what is called for here...anything else is abominable.

We all acknowledge and often voice what we feel are the shortcomings of our loved ones, but love them nonetheless. My parents and I have had some rather fierce political debates over the years (to the point of being asked to leave their home - my old home). However, there are not two people on this earth that I love and respect more than Mom and Dad.

Jeff Carter and the Democrats' general refusal to hold each other accountable is appalling.

Senator Obama's comments about the grandmother that raised him were offensive and only the strident party faithful can see such a comment as anything other than the insult that it was. It was clearly a pejorative comment, designed to earn him political credit at the expense of the woman who willingly raised him because his shiftless parents were irresponsible. Obama's own experience might well have shaped his own embrace of abortion as evidenced by his comment that he would not want to have one of his daughter's lives "ruined" by a "mistake".

Here is the radio interview Obama comment: "she is a typical white person who, you know, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, there is a reaction." This was offensive. He called his grandmother a bigot. He called her a racist. He further said "she feared black men".

Jeff, this is exactly what you Democrats (most particularly NOW) did during the Clinton years when Clinton was sexually assaulting his way across America, into the Oval Office and beyond. And yet you stood silent even during the perjury impeachment trial in the Senate. The very lonely exception was Senator Joe Lieberman who came to the well of the Senate to denounce Clinton. Rather than being praised as a voice of wisdom, he was kicked out of the Connecticut Democrat Party, still easily winning re-election as an independent.

I will not say the Republicans are much better. Sniffles' chronicles of Lynn Westmoreland are accurate and insightful. See the Mark Foley affair. However, when Richard Nixon fell from power it was a Repbulican Congressional contingent that went up Penn Ave to the White House and told him that if he did not resign he would be removed from office by impeachment. The Democrats did the opposite with Clinton.

Obama's comments about his grandmother were shameful, opportunistic and, from a Biblical perspective, potentially defensible only by a theologian of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Black Liberation Theology school of thought. "Thou shalt Honor thy Mother and thy Father"---- does that ring a bell?

I love it how liberals will just run away from the issue when they are losing.

No one is disputing the fact that Obammy's grammy was a racist. Heck, Obammy and Michelle are both racists.

The point you miss, Jeff, is that Obama used the word "typical" as in typical white behavior. He not only called his grammy a bigot but he stated that that was typical for whites (but apparently ok for blacks to stereotype). I'm waiting for Jeff to say that Obammy never even said it in the first place.

You should be condemning Obammy for the racist he is. But as long as he keeps propping up your liberal causes and funding them, principles are irrelevent.

JeffC's picture
Submitted by JeffC on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 1:39pm.

That's not how I see it. As far as running away from an issue when we're losing, I believe that tonight we will find out which issues are important and how most people decided about them.

If lots and lots of people think that the manufactured controversies like Obama's birth certificate, his grandmother being a "typical" white woman, the authorship of his book, etc. are important then he will lose. If the majority recognize these "issues" as false, trivial or both then I suspect he'll win.

It will be interesting to see how many people agree with each of us.

Wow. I have that same reaction too! And I know that I am NOT a bigot...at least I try not to be. But there are some situations where I believe most of us do feel afraid, especially women, when walking around alone. So... yes, if I was walking down some city street, alone, and was approached by some man, white or black, I would ALSO feel some fear...it's just a natural thing, especially for women.

I still don't get why this statement has stirred such resentment in Republican's because I believe deep down that even Repub women can relate to this 'fear.' Even beeps!

It's okay, I don't mind if you don't speak to me. I will still speak to you.

I voiced my opinion because of a color issue, JeffC there's more to this than the color issue. I have with calling her a typical white woman.

You don't know my background. I will tell you one thing, I am not ashamed of it. I am proud of it. My parents taught me love. Simply love. Not color, all the hang ups of being pretty or not, fat or skinny etc. They taught me none of that matters. They taught me that God sees our hearts.

Maybe, this is not common to you. I don't know your background.

I simply made a statement. I hope Obama mourns for his grandmother. Part of that comment is the way Obama has chosen to live his life. Including the BLT church. I find that church sad. If you call it a church.

Honestly, his grandmother loved Obama so much. Parenting is the hardest job on this earth. For her it probably was extra hard with the issues back when Obama was growing up. I know the love she had to have to endure this.

For example: My neighbor had a maid that helped cook and clean house because she was elderly. Her husband I loved, he was blind and I loved just talking to him. One Valentine's day I filled out my Valentine cards and I gave the maid a Valentine's card. She cried and gave me a huge hug. I was only 6, I didn't have a clue why she cried.
I went home and in 10 min. a knock on the door this sweet lady went and bought me a Valentine Card. With tears streaming down her cheeks she told me how much she loved me. This lady was also at my wedding. This lady does not have a color label, I just loved her. Do you get the picture.

I do feel for the family. Loosing a love one is hard.

The color issue concerned me. Honestly, Jeff if my grandmother was a different color that issue would never come up. BTW I am not all white. Are any of us?????? So, what's up with that statement.

I think Grandmother heard it, in my heart I think it could have hurt.
Grandmother loved Obama regardless.

Yeah, I will speak to you. Life is too short to live it that way.

Have a nice evening.

It's Independence Day!

What you have stated is a reasonable comment about Obama. No, Jeff, what he said was not "reasonable", it was disgusting. You don't bring your elderly grandmother into the speech like that to make your point at her expense. You don't use her to make a point when it will shed a possible bad light on her, especially when YOU are desperately trying to keep that same "bad light" off the FACT that you have been sitting in a church (and I use that word very liberally) and have listened to some of the most disgusting racist and anti-American comments ever uttered. FOR 20 YEARS!! What I cannot understand is how Obama did not see fit to bring his children (and this lady's grandchildren) to her bedside when she was so close to death. Maybe I am wrong, and maybe they did come but what I have seen, it does not appear to be so. Submitted by jokerman on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 9:38am.

didn't spend so much time on the subject of a private citizen's death yesterday for no reason? They certainly had an agenda for doing so. John McCain gave up 5 years of his life, as well as some of his health, for the love of his country and the love of his comrades. He could have gone home since he was the son of an Admiral, but chose not to. Think about that today. Dwell on THAT today. I couldn't have done it. I disagree with McCain on a lot of issues, but he is more qualified to be President than any other person, save Washington, Madison, or Jefferson, that has ever held the office. Barry is a junior senator with some dubious affiliations, and a guy we know virtually nothing about. The press failed us big time on vetting this guy. That did not do their job, bottom line. His big accomplishment- he beat a guy from Maryland, Alan Keyes, in an Illinois election. Senator Government, Senator "Present", Senator "That One". A millionaire who has an allegedly illegal aunt living in a Boston slum. Yet he wants us to be our brother's keeper. Disagree with him and he will throw you off his plane. Mention his ears in a column and he will chastise you. Not a great speaker, not a great thinker, not fast on his feet, not a great anything. A good deal of question about the authorship of his books, his birth country of origin, his citizenship status after adoption and schooling in Indonesia. Yet America clamours for this. I disagree with McCain for running such a highground campaign. But, I guess he was too honorable to get in the mud.

When you were complaining in September when McCain banned Maureen Dowd and Joe Klein from his plane.

You can't blame the press for not vetting Obama when all you read are nut jobs complaining about the authorship of his books, his birth country of origin, his citizenship status after adoption and schooling in Indonesia. It was all covered, you just didn't want to believe it.

Jokerman, before you get tooo wrapped up in your hero worship of John McCain, here's something to consider:

There were hundreds of Prisoners of War in Vietnam. United States policy was to handle promotions while they were in captivity as if they were in the United States, i.e. the prisoners were regularly promoted in absentia.

All but a handful of these prisoners were promoted.

John McCain was one of the very few who was NOT promoted.

He went into the Hanoi Hilton as a lieutenant commander, he came out of the Hanoi Hilton nearly six years later as a lieutenant commander.

Why?

Could it have been his 38 guest appearances on Radio Hanoi, a feat matched by few others?

Or could it have been the fact that McCain betrayed his fellow naval aviators by divulging classified information regarding bombing routes and altitudes? North Vietnam redeployed anti-aircraft batteries around Hanoi based on McCain's information. How many aviators then didn't come home?

Five....FIVE!!!...Army colonels recommended to the then-Secretary of Defense that LTCMDR John McCain be brought up on charges of collaborating with the enemy. Laird, seeking to avoid a military scandal that would further detract from the Vietnam war, quashed the investigation.

Did you ever wonder why very very few former POWs were campaigning for McCain this year? What did they know about the character of the man that we didn't?

Here is an interesting LINK detailing a retired Special Forces Colonel's views on John McCain.

You seem to be placing an inordinate amount of trust in one website. Or could it be that it's payback for the "swiftboating" of one John Kerry? Either way, with the characterizations you make, I humbly ask, exactly how many of these former POW's have you been priviledged to have met?

I believe you would find that most direct information from these patriots is quite close hold out of respect for one another. Your man in 2004 wouldn't even go there.

Well, I am not writing a doctoral dissertation so I don't feel the need to multi-source items. You can choose to believe the site or not, it makes no difference to me.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the site, though, you'll see that the Army colonel in question is at least as critical of John Kerry as he was of John McCain, so I feel that your "payback" assertation just doesn't hold water.

I've never met a POW and I fail to see how that has anything to do with this discussion. As far as "closely held" information goes, there are more than a few biographical books on the market detailing individual struggles of POWs in captivity.

Thank you for your originality, I have no need for your dissertation. I will point out that the colonel being interviewed continues to grieve for his missing and presumed dead son from that era. While I offer no proof, I would lean a bit toward a lack of objectivity, but you, on the other hand, blindly jump to anything sensational that would slant against the party not of your choice.

Having met three of these gentlemen, I would state that they hold no animosity for each other and certainly would not go out of their way to disparrage a fellow member of their club.

But I could be mistaken since today you seem to have all the answers.

There is no way for us to know what he survived. To second guess what this man may have said under duress is ludicrous. I have heard many a veteran stand up for him and not disparage what this patriot did while in prison. Let's compare it with Barack's service to his country.

agenda yesterday? Please do tell! You Repubs aren't making any sense whatsoever.

I can hear your reaction this morning, if the 'liberal media' had yapped all day about his Granny's death, you'd be saying they were trying to garner sympathy for Obama.

The media did right to down play this, so what's your beef?

Gosh I love the smell of DESPERATION in the morning....it smells like victory.

No matter how you phrase it - the country is aware of who is on the attack. Some groups have besmirched the good name of a marvelous hero by calling his opponent everything under the sun that has an 'ist' ending.

I know you're hurting Darryl. If I put my political party above the needs of my country, as you do, I would be hurting too.

At this point, 97.3% of Americans have made up their respective minds as to who is the better candidate to resurrect America from the ashes of disaster that has been the Bush Administration. No plagiarism from Fred/Sara, nor histronics from you is likely to change anyone's mind at this point.

If God is merciful, voters will send Barack Obama to the White House tomorrow. If John McCain is elected, though, it will not be the end of America.

Are you retired or something, or do you just have alot of spare time on your hands?

I can assure you that when I retire I won't be doing just this. I have other things I want to do that are very enjoyable.

God is merciful, it has nothing to do with who wins the White House. It's who the people put in with their own free will in the White House. Prayer does play a part in who we vote for if we are a Christian.

BTW the world won't come to an end if Obama goes to the White House.

I guess if Barry loses tomorrow we'll know who's to blame. God just wasn't merciful.....

My God is merciful. Hopefully, just not tomorrow (by your logic).
