The numbers crept up a little higher by the end of early voting Friday. Totals showed more than 55 percent of Fayette County’s voters had cast a ballot.

Elections Officer Brenda Jones said Monday that 41,871 the county’s 76,611 active and inactive registered voters had voted by week’s end, representing 55.09 percent of registered voters. Inactive voters are those that are eligible to vote but have not done so in the past two four-year cycles.

Though it remains to be seen how many will turn out to vote Tuesday, it should be noted that Fayette is no stranger to large voter turnout. The 2004 election saw 86.35 percent of registered voters casting ballots, Jones said.

Regarding ballot initiatives specific to Fayetteville and Peachtree City, Jones said Sunday alcohol sales are included on the electronic ballot only for those residing inside the city limits of Fayetteville and the ice rink and fitness center are on the ballot only for those living inside the city limits of Peachtree City.

You make me proud! Thanks for showing up in such large numbers, we will be counted regardless of political affiliation or whom you voted for. After tomorrow, we must make sure that our next president is held accountable along with the congress; we have much work ahead of us!
