Former Rising Starr Middle School teacher and Senoia resident Craig Bowen was convicted Oct. 28 in Coweta Superior Court on four counts of child molestation. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 5 years probation.

The 57 year-old social studies teacher was arrested April 12 on charges of aggravated sexual battery and child molestation. He was alleged to have had contact that was sexual in nature with a female relative under the age of 16 during the 2000-2003 time frame in question.

The trial began Oct. 27 and ended in less than two days, with the jury returning with the guilty verdict after deliberating for approximately one and one-half hours. Assistant District Attorney Ray Mayer after the trial said Bowen had previously given a two-hour recorded statement in which he basically confessed, yet decided to continue with a jury trial.

Bowen was sentenced to 20 years, with 15 of those to be served in prison and the remaining 5 years on probation.

Superior Court Judge Jack Kirby presided at the trial.

Bowen’s employment with Fayette County School System ended after charges were filed.

My prayers go out for Craig and the entire Bowen family. May God who can heal all heal this as well.

"My prayers go out for Craig and the entire Bowen family."

Excuse me while I *retch*.

How about saying a prayer for the child who was molested and THAT family?

Nice priorities you have there, shortfield.

I did make a mistake in my wording here. This was a family on family in which the victim would have been included in 'family', hence my poor wording.

My heart breaks for this whole family. The Bowens are long time residents of this area and had positive impact in my life as I grew up and listened to their Christian music in the early 80's. True or not, the damage is surely irrepairable by human standards. How do you handle this as a family and still care about your son, brother, dad, or husband?

This can only be handled by God. The God that I know is bigger than any thing, and will forgive all sin. Only by His touch can this family ever begin to heal.

I stand corrected in my wording ...

My prayers go out for Craig, the victim, and for the entire Bowen family. May God who can heal all heal this as well.

I pray that you, Main Stream, know this God as well. Bless you for you zealous protection of the victim in this case.

This guy taught my kid, chaperoned his trip to DC, and completely had me convinced he was one of the best educators around...sad, just sad.

He confessed - he was guilty - case closed.
