Peachtree City can now see the vision of its initial planners coming to fruition. This accomplishment marks the end of one challenge and the beginning of an even larger one. As Peachtree City transitions to the next phase of growth, the goal is certainly to maintain our quality of life as one of the most livable and desirable communities in the country. The primary challenge to its leaders is three-fold. Our first challenge is to reach consensus on our vision and clearly articulate that vision for the future. Simply asserting that we want to retain our quality of life is not enough to counter the forces of change. As our city and its population mature, our issues are evolving from initial development planning to controlled redevelopment, planned expansion, and more complex economic development. Without the framework of a broader plan, decisions on more immediate issues put our future quality of life at risk. Our second challenge is to develop a method to reach that vision. While the issues are diverse, ranging from an aging community to the challenges presented by growth issues inside and outside our city, a consistent approach applies to each by asking the following questions: a) Is it in the best interest of our citizens and will it protect the quality of life in Peachtree City? b) Is the action within the appropriate role of government? c) Can it be undertaken in a financially responsible manner? d) After striving to understand the issue from all perspectives,is it the right thing to do? Our third challenge is to merge that vision with our neighboring communities, cities, and counties as we grow and affect each other. This process requires developing and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with other leaders, surrounding communities and citizens to ensure the community progresses in a positive direction. The skills required to accomplish these three objectives are best developed through years of experience in effective negotiation, creative problem solving, policy development and implementation. I offer 16 years of successful project development, law practice, and business management. My experience uniquely qualifies me to lead us in meeting these challenges and I am asking for your confidence and vote, so our City Council can promptly resolve the issues of the past and focus on our future.
