ACC slows timeline for campus relocationThu, 10/23/2008 - 2:10pm

School still dedicated to move, announces record enrollment Atlanta Christian College is slowing down its timeline for selling its East Point campus and locating to either Peachtree City or Newnan. Interim President Dean Collins said Thursday that the downturn in the economy has affected the school’s ability to sell the campus to an interested buyer. So it’s very likely that the move, and a corresponding decision, will be delayed for some time, he said. Collins said the college is by no means abandoning its plans to move, but rather slowing them down. Meanwhile the school announced today that it has a new record enrollment of 530 people thanks to the latest students in its adult program as they look to finish their education. The extra time due to the ongoing credit crunch will be used to continue to study the viability of moving either to Newnan or Peachtree City, Collins said. Leaders of both cities have been informed of the slowed pace and all have said they understand the school’s decision, Collins noted. Peachtree City officials hope to convince ACC to locate on undeveloped land on the north end of Wilksmoor Village off MacDuff Parkway. That would afford the college options to build its campus from scratch, and local advisors have pursued temporary locations for classroom and office space along with residential space for students during the construction period. The school is hoping to use the sale of part or all of its East Point campus as proceeds for its new location. ACC is a private four-year college with degree programs in seven areas of study. Founded in 1937 it is affiliated with the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. The school has an early childhood education program accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. |
