A Cartersville man died Monday after his motorcycle struck a sport utility vehicle on Sandy Creek Road near Eastin Road, sheriff’s deputies said.

Joseph Mullinax, 30, died of his injuries at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, officials said.

Mullinax was going north on Sandy Creek Road around 5:20 p.m. when a Chrysler Pacifica going in the opposite direction turned in front of him. Mullinax was unable to stop and his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle struck the Pacifica, causing him to fly off the bike, officials said.

Mullinax was wearing appropriate safety gear at the time of the crash, officials said.

The Pacifica was being driven by Paula L. Driscoll, 45, of Fayetteville, officials said. After the motorcycle hit Driscoll’s vehicle, it careened onto a Dodge Dakota pickup driven by Michael Pirkle, 48, of Fayetteville, who was behind Driscoll going south on Sandy Creek Road when the crash happened, deputies said.

Charges are pending in the case, deputies said.

The collision is being investigated by the Traffic Enforcement Division of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Mullinax, aka Jo Jo, was a beloved member at our church, Cartersville Family Church. We are all shocked and in disbelief at his sudden passing. He and his wife are such an important part of our church famliy and probably the two nicest people you would ever meet. JoJo was recently saved and baptized at our church. That has given us peace to know that he is in heaven.

He leaves behind a beautiful wife, a 3 yr and 7 month old son. Please pray for this family. They need comfort, guidance and peace during this very difficult time. JoJo will truly be missed.

God Bless

Notice it said he died of injuries at the hospital, not on the scene...the same hospital the paramedics say don't go to...you don't come out alive

You can dish it out but can't take it when it comes at you straight on so it seems.

Someone has lost their life, and another family has been turned upside down, and you have to insert hateful and mean spirited statements to inflcit more hurt into the situation. Where are you coming from? Don't be surprised if someone from the organization you attacked with your words causes you equal to or greater pain, cause it's well deserving.

How do you know the motorcycle did not come flying over that blind hill? Are you familiar with this intersection? Were you there? Have you investigated? How cruel to make such a comment when you don't know the facts. Maybe she was at fault, maybe he was speeding. Don't pass judgment until the investigation is completed. Thoughts and prayers should go out to everyone involved.

#1 Killer of motorcycle riders strikes again in PTC. This is the 2nd time in a week.

MWF:

If you look at the article, his bike struck a vehicle that was intruding on his "free right to travel". Regardless if he was going 30 or 60, he had the right of way.

Someones carelessness killed someones son/father/husband.

RIP to the rider...........no sympathy for the driver.

Way too much! We live in a warm climate region and motorcycles are a way of life here as are bicycles. People need to be cognizant of this fact but alas have not yet taken it to heart. I feel terrible for the victim. How can one NOT see a motorcycle is just beyond me!
