According to Peachtree City Police, James M. Lourim went a little too far with his home-grown business.

Lourim used a bedroom closet to grow a significant amount of marijuana plants at his home in the Sandown Creek subdivision, said Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray.

“It appeared to be for more than just recreational use,” Murray said of the crop, which was confiscated by police Tuesday.

Officers serving a search warrant found that the marijuana was being grown in a closet of the master bedroom, complete with a watering system and special lamps designed to help the plant grow without sunlight. Also found in the home were several books and DVDs showing how to cultivate marijuana, police said.

Lourim was charged with one felony count of manufacturing marijuana, and will face additional undetermined charges, Murray said. The case came to light after complaints from the owner of the home, who came all the way from Texas to file a police report on the case, police said.

In addition to the marijuana, Lourim was growing mushrooms in glass jars that were packed into boxes, and a log book detailing how they were produced was also recovered, police said.

I realize it's against the law, but is that really a good enough reason for someone to not have it? Exactly who does it hurt for someone to have this for his personal use, in his personal home? The biggest problem I see with this is that the owner of the house didn't approve, and I would lean in his direction everytime. This house could have full to the ceiling with cases of Liquor, and it would have been fine. The double standard is hilarious in this case.

There is a significant double standard in play here. No doubt that the arresting officers celebrated with shots at the local pub.

I'd personally rather a couple pipe hits than a couple drinks. Those who oppose it are simply those who are lead by the nose in most things in life.

It was illegalized for strictly political reasons and had very little to do with facts. Do the research.

anyone that wants to know the facts about marijuana the government doesent want the public to know rent the movie grass. Its narrated by woody harrelson.
Last time I checked there are about 10 states that have decriminalized the possession of marijuana. just imagine if those people werent put in jail and people selling crack or breaking into your expensive houses were. Heres some stats for you
Peachtree City police made 665 drug-related arrests during the 2001-2005 period, Chief James Murray said last week. Of that total, 587 were for marijuana. One hundred twenty arrests for marijuana were made in 2001 compared to 122 in 2002, 115 in 2003, 143 in 2004 and 87 in 2005.

Just another reason to get involved in the Fayette County Meth Task Force. This "mini pot farm" is just the tip of the iceburg here in our county. Help us get the word out. Join us!
