Magistrate race confusionTue, 10/14/2008 - 3:42pm
By: Letters to the ...
Over the past few weeks, I have learned of a great deal of confusion over the current magistrate judge election races here in Fayette County. This confusion is mainly due to the unusual configuration of our magistrate court system. Unlike other counties, Fayette County has four part-time magistrates who are all elected. These four judges correspond to four “posts” and are each voted upon by the entire county. Of these positions, two are unopposed this year and only posts 3 and 4 are contested. As one of the magistrate judges, I am running for re-election to Post 3 in the general election with votes being cast during the early voting period up through election day, Tuesday, Nov. 4. In the other contested race, James White is seeking re-election. He faces a challenger, Jason Thompson. As the election approaches, many have confused my re-election effort to Post 3 with the race between Judge White and Mr. Thompson for Post 4. The purpose of this letter is merely to clarify the possible confusion. I love Fayette County and consider it a privilege to have served as magistrate judge for the past eight years. During that time, I have also served as the appointed county conservator for probate court. I have been a practicing attorney for over 14 years and have been the backup Fayette State Court judge for the past six years. I work hard to represent the values of our community and to provide the service which the public expects and deserves. I am seeking re-election with the hope that I can continue this service. I would appreciate your support and vote Nov. 4, 2008. Robert “Bob Ruppenthal Magistrate Court Judge Post 3, Fayette County login to post comments |
