A Peachtree City man was arrested early Saturday morning after he threatened some people at the Red Room nightclub with a handgun, police said. The gun went off as several people tackled the suspect but no one was hurt, according to police. Jonathan Tyler Murphy, 31, of Long Leaf, Peachtree City was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, police said. Murphy was being held down when police arrived on the scene to arrest him, said Capt. Rosanna Dove of the Peachtree City Police Department. The incident began when Murphy got involved in an argument with other people as the bar was closing, Dove said. Murphy went out to his car and retrieved a gun that he stuck in his pants, she said. When Murphy re-entered the bar he had his hand on the weapon and said, “I have something for you (expletive),” Dove said. Murphy declined to sign a property control receipt for the gun, a .40-caliber Sig Sauer, telling police that he has had several other guns confiscated by police in the same way and he’s never gotten any of them back, so he didn’t care if he got this gun back either, Dove said. login to post comments |
