A Peachtree City man was arrested early Saturday morning after he threatened some people at the Red Room nightclub with a handgun, police said.

The gun went off as several people tackled the suspect but no one was hurt, according to police.

Jonathan Tyler Murphy, 31, of Long Leaf, Peachtree City was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Murphy was being held down when police arrived on the scene to arrest him, said Capt. Rosanna Dove of the Peachtree City Police Department.

The incident began when Murphy got involved in an argument with other people as the bar was closing, Dove said. Murphy went out to his car and retrieved a gun that he stuck in his pants, she said.

When Murphy re-entered the bar he had his hand on the weapon and said, “I have something for you (expletive),” Dove said.

Murphy declined to sign a property control receipt for the gun, a .40-caliber Sig Sauer, telling police that he has had several other guns confiscated by police in the same way and he’s never gotten any of them back, so he didn’t care if he got this gun back either, Dove said.

It's a sad situation when we have establishments ment for people to go hang out and let loose come underfire when situations like this happen. I think that some of the people in peachtree city are quick to become opinionated and pass judgement on people they feel are of a different class and that is why the situations happen. The truth is that this can happen anywhere, at anytime. The fact that this seems to be happening so much at the Red Room, we need to ask ourselves why?

All though the Red Room like to advertise that they are a first class establishment, strickly run for your entertainment and trying to ensure your safety with its security. The truth is that is not always what you get.

The Red Room has allowed people under the age of twenty-one to enter and consume alchohalic beverages, have allowed drugs to be sold and are quite often intoxicated themselves when they are suppose to be tending to the people who are there for mere pleasure and entertainment. It kind of sets the tone of whats bound to happen there.

Does Peachtree City have to close down all places of entertainment, were situations like this might happen? I don't believe so. What I do believe is that we the people of Peachtree City need to make sure that the people who own and manage these types of establishments are truley qualified to handle this caliber of buisness. Are they being professional? Are they abiding by the laws, that allow them to run an establishment like this? Are we paying attention to some of the complaints on this establishment that have come since they been open? Are we, as citizens of Peachtree City, making sure that complaints are being handle professionally? Or, are we just quick to say, it was those thugs again!

I believe we all need to open are eyes here and look in to the real problems that are going on.

We've had many fights, a shooting and death!
What more do we need to see that somethings just not right in that place!

This place is actually still in buisness? Who knew? Wouldn't the owner feel more comfortable in riverdale?

Change can be good or bad, and everything changes with time. What kind of change do we want for our city?

The good thing is several good people tackled this idiot and held him until the cops got there. Good job! Whoever you are, you are heros for stopping that thug.

Had Murphy shot someone and killed them- is that the same as punching someone and them dying?

It is time for the Red Room to be closed and help remove this element of "THUGS"!

I wonder was this individual ever convicted of a felony in any of his previous problems with law enforcement? If so why was he not charged with illegal possession of a firearm? With the prior trouble I doubt that he could buy this pistol through a legal purchase.

Its understandable why this guy carries a gun, has anyone been to Long Leaf lately?
That neighborhood is/always/has been harboring a criminal element and I guess you need to be packing if you drive through there.
Back to the RR, do we need to have another person die at this bar or any bar before the city government does something? Metal detectors? Armed Security? Police foot patrols in that shopping center?
