James W. Dyer Jr., minister emeritus of Southwest Christian Church, East Point, died Oct. 1, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Pauline East Dyer Sr., and his wife, Dura Aldridge of Carrollton, whom he had married in 1950. She died in 2002. He served churches primarily in the Atlanta area. He, along with others, established Christian City and Southwest Christian Care in Union City. Besides his church work he enjoyed reading, watching the Braves games and coaching softball. He received numerous awards for his Christian community work. Services were at Southwest Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. James Donovan and the Rev. Tony Dyer officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Dyer, Union City; daughters, Kathy and Bob Every, Macau, China, Peggy and Doug McNash, Smyrna, and Paul and Bryce Crawford, Peachtree City; six grandchildren; stepdaughters, Beth and Rick Harper, Fayetteville, and Grace and Perry Sisk, Tyrone; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Gene P. and Martha Dyer, Union City; a brother-in-law, James and Virginia Aldridge, Union City; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Hewitt, Rome, and Georgia and Jeffie Elton, Aransas Pass, Texas. Memorial donations may be given to Southwest Christian Care, Union City, or the Bedford School. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge. login to post comments |
