Vote NO on ice rink

On Nov. 4, you will have the opportunity to send a clear and concise message to the elected officials of Peachtree City. On the ballot will be a referendum for a $9.9 million bond to construct Phase 1 of a multiphase recreational project.

I urge you to vote NO because you the taxpayer will donate the land, and pay $505,000 a year towards the annual debt service, and Mr. Dar Thompson will collect the profits.

I understand that Mr. Thompson will pay the city $436,200 in rent annually. Assume for the moment that the recreational facility is not profitable and he cannot pay the rent. Now we, the taxpayers, will be footing the bill.

If this recreational facility is such a great idea, then Mr. Thompson should find the capital and build it himself.

This bond issue is outrageous, and I am appalled that the mayor and council supports this measure. The primary purpose of government is to protect and defend its citizens, not to front the money for one man.

Mr. Downing,

You and your son were huge supporters of the monster who ate Peachtree City. I've read your comments in opposition to stuff the mayor heaps on us like this idiotic ice rink.

Like you, I got on the Logsdon bandwagon and got a real bad case of motion sickness.

I don't know why you both still support the failed Logsdon machine.

Back when we met at the campaign BBQ at Falcon Field it all looked like roses and Harold appeared to be good to his word. I can't believe the two of you still back the guy. It's hard to take your letters seriously.

It’s time to get the facts. Information on the Ice Facility and Recreational Facilities Bond is posted on www.ptcsportsplex.com. These facts and many others can be found on this website.

Fact Check: The truth about the Recreational Facilities Bond to support ice rinks in Peachtree City.

Peachtree City will continue to retain ownership of the land & building for the ice facility.
Average household will pay only $2.18 per month($26.16 per year) in property tax increase.
Operating expenses will be the responsibility of the ice management company.
Atlanta Thrashers and Gwinnett Gladiators professions hockey organizations offer ongoing support and commitment to Peachtree City ice sports complex.

Your facts are not even close. I suggest you read the letter “Outrage: $9.9 million PTC bond vote to benefit 1 man” to get all the facts. On the other hand if someone really believes they will only pay a couple of bucks a month for a $10,000,000 facility then by all means they should vote for it. A sucker is born every day.

BULL!

That is only 260,000 dollars per year income from your tax increase!

That will not pay off the note and the interest in itself --- not even close.

Operating and salary costs will not even be covered by those taxes.

Rentals might maintain the place, maybe.

This IS another Tennis Center fiasco, only much bigger.

Remember what a famous con artist once said, " don't tell a little lie to the people, make it a very big one and they will believe it."
A. Hitler.
I assume our Mayor and Council do have more sense.
What we need is a youth center that would actually cost us about $100 a year to build and maintain.

There aren't any sign contracts of financial support from the Thrashers and Gladiators. They can barely fund their own programs.

If it's such a profitable idea, why don't they build it on their own and leave us the heck alone?
