A company that produces a new style of artificial turf for sports fields is relocating its corporate headquarters to Peachtree City, it was announced this afternoon.

FieldTurf Tarkett, which bills itself as “the world leader in sports surfacing” will be located in the former Husky building in the Southpark area of the Peachtree City industrial park.

The company has a manufacturing facility in Dalton, and the headquarters will be moving from Montreal, Canada where the company will maintain an office presence, company officials said.

Local residents don’t have to go far to spot FieldTurf in action, as it is the playing surface at the Georgia Dome. It’s also used on the practice fields for the University of Georgia football team.

Matt Forshee of the Fayette County Development Authority said the company expects to have between 20 and 30 people employed at its Peachtree City operation, all of whom will be at the executive level, the company said.

According to the company, FieldTurf is designed to play like a real grass surface and avoid the accelerated fatigue and muscle and joint stress associated with other rubber-filled systems. Specifically the company touts the improved surface for drastically reducing “rug burn” type injuries that are common on other artificial sports surfaces.

Of 32 teams in the National Football League, 21 either play and/or practice on FieldTurf, joining more than 50 NCAA football teams.

The plant in Dalton has 35 employees and can produce 219 million square feet of the turf, enough for just under 3,000 fields, a year.

“This location is another example of the value Peachtree City and Fayette County offer corporate entities,” Forshee said. “We have high education standards, a large white collar workforce, a unique lifestyle and a dedication to quality that many communities speak of, but few can deliver. We are excited to welcome FieldTurf and look forward to them becoming another outstanding corporate headquarters and citizen of our great community.”

Given past few years, this is just great news, and causes one to be a bit more appreciative! Thanks FieldTurf!!

Perfect timing! PTC families are getting ready to vote YES for the Recreational Facilities Bond on Nov 4 to bring an Ice Sports Complex to our city.

What a great way to attract such a dynamic Canadian company to our vibrant city.

We all know building ice facilities play a huge role in bringing in international businesses. Who knew it would work so fast?

If they would take that exercise gym off the end of it and install a kids center, run by Dar, it might work if private money paid for it!

again to this ice sports complex. Not with our tax dollars, not gonna happen. Last I checked, it was kinda rough on the skate blades when ya try to skate on the artificial turf.
I, too, welcome FieldTurf and hope you all enjoy our beautiful town as much as we do.

Who the H-E-double-hockeysticks is gonna vote FOR a PTC Ice Rink to be built by us, "Tennis Centered" to a "manager" so any profits are given away and all the liabilities remain with the taxpayers? If this is something that has a chance (in the town dumb enough to elect Logsdon!) I want to open a bar!! In a warehouse! We'll do Country a couple of nights, Oldies a couple of nights, Raves some other nights!!

Oh darn, why did the Wyndham stop doing Friday night dances -- it was the only thing worth going to for us "regular" people.

I am very pleased to add jobs to PTC where there are good odds the employees will choose to live, work, shop and play here.

That is a win for the company, employees and PTC.

It is also a beautiful location and building, inside and out. They should be very happy there.

Thanks, Matt, for a job well done!

we get sport turf to make up the difference in operational cost for the city for an ice rink? I'm happy to see some of the empty business space being used but really. Do we need to take on more debt and operational expense to the city?
