Georgians will have the opportunity to purchase qualified energy efficient products with no state or local sales tax from Thursday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 5.

A broad range of products up to $1,500 marked with the Energy Star logo and purchased for personal use are included in this unique incentive. Specifically, the sales tax exemption applies to Energy Star qualified dishwashers, clothes washers, room air conditioners, ceiling fans, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats, refrigerators, doors and windows.

And new this year, certain water efficient products that carry the Water Sense logo will also be sales-tax free. These products include bathroom sink faucets and faucet accessories (such as aerators), showerheads, high-efficiency toilets, high-efficiency urinals, and weather or sensor-based irrigation controllers. To learn more about Water Sense, visit www.epa.gov/watersense.

In addition to the up-front cost savings provided by the sales tax holiday, Energy Star appliances, electronics and lighting operate while using less energy – and less money – than older models. To learn more about what Energy Star is, and how the purchase of an energy efficient appliance can save you energy and money while protecting the environment, visit the interactive Energy Star@Home tool at www.energystar.gov.

I can see all those folks who can't pay their mortgage running out to take advantage of this sales tax holiday, charging everything in sight, just because they save the sales tax. Things they would not usually think of buying. Can't say "no" to a bargain!!!
