Gunmen sought in separate kidnap, robbery

Back-to-back incidents over the weekend in Fayetteville may not have been connected but they shared a couple of interesting similarities. The incidents involved two men with guns wearing masks in an aggravated assault at Zaxby’s and a kidnapping outside Tinseltown Theater. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Glenn Askew said the incident at Zaxby’s restaurant on North Glynn Street occurred Sept. 20 between 10:30-10:45 p.m. as an employee was taking trash out the back door.

Two men wearing black clothes, hoodies, gloves and Halloween masks and armed with handguns entered the store through the back door, Askew said.

The men held five employees at gunpoint while they determined that the restaurant’s office door was locked. The men left quickly, Askew said, having been in the store for less than a minute. Aggravated assault charges result from holding the employees at gunpoint.

The second incident occurred at 11:15 p.m. just up the road outside Tinseltown Theater at Fayette Pavilion. A man exiting his vehicle was abducted after two men in a dark colored SUV stopped, jumped out of their vehicle and forced the man into the SUV, Askew said. Both men had guns and were wearing masks, said Askew.

They drove to Deer Trail, behind Banks Station Shopping Center, where they dropped the man off after taking his pants and cell phone, said Askew. The kidnapped man was not injured, Askew said.

Fayetteville police are investigating both incidents.

http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/clayton/stories/2008/09/22/clayton_crime.html

From the article:
"Violent crime in Clayton rose by 21 percent in 2007. Neighboring Fayette County...was the only other county in the metropolitan Atlanta area to see double-digit increases."

Yet, according to certain Fayette law enforcement agencies, we don't have a crime problem. This threat is VERY real people. Hopefully you won't have a gun pointed at you or be abducted before you realize that.

Fayette's double-digit increase was in percentage NOT the raw numbers themselves.

As if you go from 1 murder to 2 murders you have a 100 percent increase. Woooh.

Look at the raw numbers again and tell me we still aren't incredibly fortunate here in Fayette Co. That's not to say we won't have some upswings in crime with the economy etc. but nowhere near as bad as the rest of metro Atlanta.

You can move anytime ya want to. Delta's ready when you are!

If you re-read my above post you will see that it says the increase is a percentage, not raw data.

As for me moving, I've lived here for 20 years and do not plan to relocate. This is my community and I intend to defend it.

We need to get used to it apparently. Good thing they had masks on or we would have to suffer through the description of the criminals.

I guess these kinds of stories are so commonplace now that they get buried in bowels of the newspaper.

To quote from a letter by a Fayetteville Police Department Major to The Citizen on 5/27/08:
“As someone who has a direct responsibility for the law enforcement deployment and police activity related to the Fayette Pavilion and other shopping areas in Fayetteville, I feel the need to set the record straight… Rest assured that Fayetteville police officers and a supporting cast of deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office work hand in hand on a daily basis to suppress crime in the Pavilion. We maintain a strong working relationship between the two agencies…don’t be afraid to shop at the Pavilion. If someone tells you otherwise, they just don’t have the facts.”

I appreciate all that the law enforcement agencies do, and I know that you can’t be everywhere, but crime obviously continues to increase in Fayette County, especially around the Pavilion. Nobody I know feels safe going to the Pavilion now after dusk and that’s a shame.

Is there still a police precinct in the Pavilion?

Anytime you hear such as this (above)
"FPD and a supporting cast OF DEPUTIES from FCSO work hand in hand on a daily basis to supress crime. We maintain a strong working relationship....they just don't have the facts," ask more questions!

Now I don't know what a "supporting cast" is in a PD.
Don't know exactly what "hand in hand" is.
Don't know what a "strong working relationship" is either.

And the facts are---there is enormous crime there!

Can't the cops be detailed? Exactly what does those statements above do and in detail how is it done? Arrests made together; when; hours in Pavilion arresting and patrolling; etc.

Sounds like the fire department explaining how many on a truck and the hours they work!!!!

My family and I do not go into Fayetteville. We go to Newnan or head north to Lenox. It is a shame to see such a quaint beautiful town like Fayetteville go down hill rapidly.

Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are really nice now. I went last week and see no reason to ever go back to The Pavilion in Crimetown ever again.

is MUCH higher than anywhere in Fayette. Obviously, not just the number of crimes, but the crime rate. I know the numbers in Coweta are worse than Fayette, nothing would make me think that Fulton County around Lenox was safer.

Where is Lenox, GA? Or is it in TN?
I can't seem to get into or out of Newnan anymore!
It is a three hour trip from PTC, there, shop and back with 15 min. shopping.

Your nic suits you. If you have no idea where Lenox is, may I suggest you buy a map, because obviously, you don't own a map. More than likely, you don't know how to even read a map. But them again, Lenox is probably not for you. There is a Walmart located in PTC, Fayetteville, and Newnan.

I can't find Lenox, Georgia on any map!

Glad that you are well off.. Hope this depression doesn't get you!
