There is no such thing as a pro-abortion candidate

By: Letters to the ...

After reading the letters to the editor in this past week’s Citizen, and seeing probably four or five different letters all referring to someone being “pro-abortion,” I had to write in.

There’s no such thing as a pro-abortion candidate. In fact, I believe I can say accurately there is no such thing as a pro-abortion person.

Think about it. What exactly would that mean? That a person gets up one morning excited over the fact that they can experience an abortion? The thought is ridiculous, and so are all the accusations of calling Senator Obama pro-abortion.

Senator Obama is pro-CHOICE. Being pro-choice in no way implies Obama, the Democratic Party, or any other pro-choice advocate, would suggest or promote abortion. What it means is that Senator Obama, along with everyone else who is pro-choice, feels this is a subject that should not be dictated by the government. It should be a private matter and the choice of a woman and her family to make such a decision. Pro-choice simply wants the right to choose.

On a slightly different subject, I would also like to say many of us are tired of all the insults, sarcasm and half truths that are being published about the Democratic candidate.

So here’s my suggestion: If you would like to see McCain win, that’s your prerogative. But rather than tell me and others what’s wrong with our candidate, try telling me what’s right with yours. Respond to this letter with what you feel McCain has already done for the country, and I, in turn, will do the same about Obama.

And please, folks, don’t talk about the fact that McCain is a POW. We know that. We got it. He’s a war hero and a patriot and should always be seen as one. But now tell us what he has actually done for the country since he’s been in politics.

I’ve posed that same question to email friends whenever they send me forwarded junk mail about Obama. And the funny thing is, I’ve yet to get back a response.

So, if you can list what McCain has done and specifics on what he will do for the country, by all means tell me. And I will tell you what Obama has done, and will do, as well. Remember — positive comments only. No insults about the other candidate.

But here is a good site that will list many accomplishments of Senator John McCain. Now,as promised... How about Senator Barack Obama's accomplishments?

I really can't believe that I'm replying to a letter writer whose comments are absolutely absurd.

I know you are a Democrat, ergo the need for bumper sticker type politics so that you can "feel" like you are an intelligent voter. "Pro-choice simply means the right to choose." Again, simple answers for simple people.

And then to suggest that no one has ever shared with you a single McCain accomplishment versus Obama. Man, are you that delusional? I won't list the huge differences in these candidates or their accomplishments. No wait, I'll list Obama's. He stopped legislation on dozens of occasions to prevent a child born alive after an abortion, from being given any medical care. There, now isn't that special. I just wonder what these children thought about their own right to choose. Hmm, "Do I want to die in the trash can, or in the linen basket?"

I think you should continue to drink your Kool-Aid and to vote for the party that has the simple and non-threatening answers to this world's problems.

When life is measured with catch phrases and slogans, when indifference to innocent life becomes a campaign commercial, when we proudly triumph the powerful over the powerless, then we are not far from the precipice in which the "rights" of all Americans begin to trump the need to pay for health care for the infirmed, the disabled, and the elderly. Democratic politics has always been by incrementalism, and this is but the first "baby" steps until all our rights are interpreted by what is best for the government and not what is best for the innocent. (My brother is retarded, unable to care for himself "outside of the womb", I wonder if my Mother's right to choose is still an enforceable constitutional right?)

As my hero once said, "Everyone who is pro-choice (i.e. pro-abortion) has already been born." (My paraphrase.)

There, I've shown my own ignorance by spending this much time commenting about your absolutely asinine views. I sometimes wonder what kind a world this would be, if all of the children that grew up to be pro-abortion, where themselves aborted.

In China pro-choice means, no children with any known disabilities are born.
In China pro-choice means, girls are selectively aborted over the boys.
In America pro-choice means, those who can not vote, are not heard.
In America pro-choice means personal convenience and lack of discipline or responsibility triumphs over the innocent.

If the right of the mother absolutely defeats the non-rights of the fetus, then why not allow abortions in healthy pregnancies up until the child's umbilical cord is severed? I mean, it is her "choice". Why does it make a difference in which tri-mester the abortion occurs, if Pro-choice simply means the right to choose? How does that make any sense at all? But again, simple people need simple answers and they frown from answering questions that can't be answered by a bumper sticker.

I've got to quit wasting my time on people whose grey matter hasn't been used since "Desperate Housewives'" season ended this last spring.

What I asked for in this letter was for POSITIVE comments as to what McCain can do and has done for the country. But, as usual, you were unable to come up with anything, so you simply resorted to insults and accusations. How typical.

By the way, right now there's a Republican President that has been in office for almost eight years. Why is it suddenly Obama's fault that there are abortion legalities in this country? Why haven't you solicited Bush to change the laws to suit you? He, and you, had eight years to try and make that change. I guess it wasn't so important when it wasn't an election year. And please don't say there's a Democratic controlled Congress. They have only been the majority for 2 of the 8 years.

So again, I'll repeat my question - what has McCain/Palin done for this country so far, and what specifics are they planning to do to encourage me to vote for them? Or is that question still too asinine for you to answer, or are you just too asinine to have a legitimate answer?

This is exactly the type of answer the writer did not want. Your lack of respect for others' opinions is astounding. Why can't those who support McCain simply state their reasons for supporting him without resorting to name calling and attempts to belittle the supporters of Obama? I hope that this country can return to constructive dialogue and leave gutter politics out of the campaign.

Thank you for responding and understanding the content of my letter. As I mentioned in my letter, I've posed that question to many people who are quick to insult rather than state fact and have never gotten a legitimate answer back. The same still holds true. In the week's time this letter has been posted, the insulting submission and your response are the only two that have been written in.

What a shame no one knows how to write something positive!
