Fact or fiction? Time will tellTue, 09/23/2008 - 3:28pm

With Sarah Palin now just a “party” away from being the first woman vice president, the now defunct 2005 TV series, “Commander In Chief,” came to mind. The series’ fictional character, Mackenzie Allen, is the first woman VP. The similarities continue. Both Palin and Allen have relatively little public office experience; both are in the same age group; are devoted mothers deeply involved in their children’s day-to-day activities; and both have great legs. The premise of the show deals with the sudden death of the president with the VP taking over the Oval Office, with very little in her background to prepare her for the role as commander in chief. The grim facts of life might suggest that this show was a little ahead of its time, and what was fictional in 2005 might be a reality in the not-too-distant future.
