Fayette County District Attorney’s Office on Sept. 12 successfully petitioned the court to try 16 year-old College Park resident Robert Eugene Crawford as an adult for the August 30th aggravated assault on a police officer at Tinseltown Theater at Fayette Pavilion. Crawford pulled a handgun and attempted to fire it at the officer. The incident occurred Aug. 30 at approximately 11 p.m. when Fayetteville Police officers were investigating two suspicious people behind the Tinseltown Movie Theater, said Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. The two people gave the officer names and dates of birth. While the officer was trying to verify the information given, Crawford ran from the officer, said Crawshaw. While running from the officer, Crawford pointed a 9mm Glock handgun at the officer that was approximately 25 feet behind him. The officer heard the gun click then Crawford threw the gun, said Crawshaw. Crawford then ran around the corner of a building to a dead end area, said Crawshaw. When the officers approached the area where Crawford was standing, they were able to see both of his hands. The officer holstered his firearm and pointed a Taser at Crawford, Crawshaw said. Crawford complied with the officer’s direction and was handcuffed without further incident. Crawford was charged with aggravated assault, felony obstruction, giving false name, address or date of birth to a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a pistol by a person under the age of 18 and pointing or aiming a gun at another, Crawshaw said. login to post comments |
