PTC's Beebe honored by Atlanta Braves

This past Saturday, the Atlanta Braves hosted their third annual "Breast Cancer Awareness Day", and more than 800 participants (including survivors and their family and friends) came out to help raise awareness and funds. The Braves also awarded their first "Diamond of Hope" awards, and one of the recipients was Janet Beebe from Peachtree City.

Beebe was nominated by Barbara Farmer and Jean Witcher. She began her battle with breast cancer at the age of 33 and shortly after her own surgery and treatment she started volunteering with the American Cancer Society, Bosom Buddies of Georgia and several other non-profit organizations.  She has worked for five years as a crew member with the Atlanta 2-Day Walk, and has spent her free time working evenings and weekends doing health fairs, visiting breast cancer patients in hospitals and talking to patients on the phone.

Beebe has also trained and developed a huge volunteer base that has spread all over Georgia, and she visits high schools and teaches students in health classes to do self-breast examinations.

She founded her own non-profit organization, The Breast Cancer Survivor’s Network, which facilitates approximately 40 breast cancer support groups.

After 25 years of survivorship Janet never gives up, she says she heals herself through helping others become survivors.
