Bloody mess on the golf cart path

sniffles5's picture

I was tooling around on the snifflecart today, up on Kedron drive when I saw a truly frightening site: a bicyclist literally covered in blood pushing a mangled bike away from the intersection of where the cart path crosses Fielding Ridge drive. He was bleeding from cuts and bad scrapes on both arms and legs.

I of course stopped and asked the poor guy if I could help, offered to take him and his bike on my cart or I could call 911. He said no, he was just angry....said an older woman just whipped around the corner at Kedron onto Fielding and literally ran him over. She didn't volunteer to help him. He lived across the street so he said he could make it home.

That's the second time since I've lived here that I've seen someone get hurt at that intersection. It's deceptive in a car making a right hand turn from Kedron onto Fielding Ridge, you have to be very aware that there is a cart crossing right there as well.

Just like riding in a car you've got to watch around you.

I've seen some pretty stupid bikers riding through intersections without stopping and stuff like that. I've seen some wearing dark clothes and riding at dust.

Safety goes both ways.

I am glad to see that the man was able to get home on his own. I can testify to the amount of blood that gets let from a bicycle wreck. Please everyone, be aware of bicyclists because you will be seeing more of them. And bicyclists, wear your helmet and ride as if you are invisible.

I witnessed someone the other day nearly plow into a bicyclist. To be fair, neither one was really paying attention. The golf cart driver was turning on to another path and was not going to stop & the bicyclist didn't seem to care either, he was not going to stop. From what I saw, I would say the driver did not see the Bicyclist coming around the corner and reacted to slowly when he finally did see him. Luckily for everyone, there was no accident but it was sure close.

While Golf Carts need to be more aware of others and slow down when approaching traffic & going around curves. Bicyclists and Pedestrians need to pay more attention and show others the same courtesy. They also need to make themselves visible to others. It is very easy to blend in some of these shady areas when you are wearing dark colors.
Let's not forget this is a multi-use path and that does not mean just because you are walking or riding a bike that a golf cart needs to go in the ditch because you are to lazy to move to one side. Maybe it is time everyone turned off your IPOD and put down the phone and pay a little more attention.

Pet owners, put your dog(s) on a leash. I enjoy walking just like many do but I do not enjoy having some hound run loose and jump on me while the owner is a couple hundred feet back with their ear glued to a phone.

At what point do hillbillies, dogs and leashes converge?

I know pappy and mammy didn't do it, but YOU should do it.

Rules of the road.

Normal rules of the road apply to the paths. For instance, when approaching oncoming path users, each user shall move to his right side of the path. Passing shall be on the left side.

Any vehicle using paths during darkness must use headlights and must have appropriate reflectors.

Each user shall be considerate of the welfare and safety of other users. Dangerous conduct will not be tolerated.

Littering on the paths shall be subject to twice the fines and penalties as littering on the streets. All litter shall be deposited in the receptacles provided.

I agree, anytime you have a new "traffic stream" entering a roadway such as this path there is always a potential for something bad happening. I'm glad he was OK.
