Kevin Landers assumes commandThu, 09/11/2008 - 3:57pm

Lt. Col. Kevin P. Landers Sr., son of Jim and Becky Landers of Peachtree City, Ga., is the new commander of the 4th Engineer Battalion (Combat Effects), Ft. Carson, Colo. The Change of Command ceremony took place at Ft. Carson on August 6, 2008. Landers holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia and a masters of science degree in defense geographic information systems from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He has been a registered landscape architect since 1998 in the state of Virginia. He was commissioned in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1990, at the University of Georgia. His military education includes the command and general staff college and the engineer officer basic and advanced courses at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His previous assignments include: Platoon Leader, 72nd Engineer Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia; Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 43rd Engineer Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia; Company Commander, 5th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Deputy Inspector General, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; instructor at the National Geospatial Intelligence College (NGA), Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the 30th Engineer Battalion (Topographic) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Most recently, Landers redeployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom as part of the Governance Assessment Team assessing the capacity of the Iraqi Government for Ambassador Ryan Crocker and General David Petraeus. His military awards and decorations include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the United Nations Medal - Somalia, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge. Landers is married to the former Melody Wilson of Grantsville, West Virginia. They have five children: Kevin Jr., Kyle, Megan, Amanda and Justin. login to post comments |
