Social Security

Please THINK when you vote in this election!

Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this.

Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what.

And it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat of Republican. Facts are facts.

A brief history of Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary.

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to 'put away', you may be interested in the following:

----------------------------------

Q: Which political party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it in to the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democrat-controlled House and Senate.

-------------------------------------

Q: Which political party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democrat Party.

-----------------------------------

Q: Which political party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democrat Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

---------------------------------

Q: Which political party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

AND MY FAVORITE:

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democrat Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, they began to receive Social Security payments. The Democratic Party gave these payments to them even though they never paid a dime into it!

---------------------------------

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA),

the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people read this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so.

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT

FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!

"A government big enough to give you everything you want,is strong enough to take everything you have."
-Thomas Jefferson

I gather from you blog here we now know what you do for work...oh, your retired...and drawing Social Security...and you are only taking back what you put in, right? Rejecting those COLAs are you? Talk about holding up the working man. The only difference it that you are using a pen (to sign those checks) and not a gun.

You come on here and rail about deadbeats while you are bilking the American government for money that is not yours. And we wonder why Social Security is in trouble today? At least make an attempt at not looking like a hypocrite.

Keep the faith.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

I am kind of confused on your post.

Why would you suggest a person that has paid into SS all of his life and is now receiving SS benefits is bilking the government out of money?

I didn’t know that a person who planned for retirement and has built up a retirement nest egg is not eligible for SS benefits. Is SS only for the poor?

I must have missed something somewhere.

Fred Garvin is a man seemingly incapable of original thought. Fred's harangue above is a cut and paste of a chain e-mail sent to gullible conservatives in 2005.

The great debunking website, snopes.com, has an entire page devoted to debunking this steaming pile of bovine manure that Fredo is passing off as his own. LINK

I particularly enjoyed Fred's lie about FICA at one time being tax deductible.

Thanks sniffles, you beat me to it.

For some reason aging conservatives love to spread this sort of stuff via e-mail. I've gotten numerous phony "history lessons" and "lists" and "timelines" and such from my ultra-reactionary father-in-law. Maybe it's the joy of discovering you can send around any nonsense you want and usually not get called on it.

My personal favorite was the one about Mr. Rogers being a Navy seal in 'Nam who personally "had over 25 confirmed kills to his name." Sorry, Mr. Garvin, that one's not true either.

"They are the gift that keeps taking from this country."

You guys have to stop eating all the stuff shoveled into your un curious mouths.

Actually, Skyspy, more of your tax money has been burned and more debt CREATED under the gifts that keep on taking; your fellow republicans. Keep in mind, the government has NEVER been BIGGER or SPENT MORE than it currently does under you know who as Executives.
