RBC Centura bank robbery_9-02-2008

The RBC Centura bank on Ga. Highway 314 north across from the Fayette Pavilion in Fayetteville was robbed at gunpoint around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 according to reports on police radio.

The suspect was initially described as a black male wearing a long white sleeve shirt, blue jeans, braided hair and with a fake beard that appeared to be drawn on with some type of makeup. It was speculated that the hair possibly could have been a wig.

A later report indicated that a neighbor spotted the suspect wearing a red T-shirt and running while holding a gun. Another person in the area confirmed that a man believed to be the suspect ran through a backyard of the adjacent neighborhood.

The initial report to police was that the subject had what was possibly a machine gun and got away on foot from the bank. A Fayetteville K-9 unit briefly tracked a scent from the bank but it ended in a nearby cul-de-sac. Other K-9 units were deployed in the search.

Numerous marked and unmarked units from the Fayettteville Police and Fayette County Sheriff's departments rushed to the area to assist in the search for the suspect. Because the sheriff's helicopter was unavailable the Clayton County police department's helicopter was employed in the search.

By 6:30 p.m. neighbors and businesses in the area received an automated phone call with a description of the suspect and a request to contact police if any suspicious activity is spotted.

My husband and I just moved from Atlanta where shopping is often times a rather scary experience. The Pavillion is by no means dangerous and the worse thing anyone can do is bad mouth it to the point where people actually stop going there and it does fall into the scary realm. It takes everyday citizens caring about their community to keep their schools, their shopping centers and their streets safe. One of the things I love about Fayette County is the friendly diversity. I would hate for this to turn into a race issue and mar those relationships. It's important to remember that we are all a few paychecks away from becoming the "trash" everyone is so concerned about. Let's be careful to remember that everyone is somebody's baby. If an individual makes you nervous or is up to no good, grow a pair and call the police or talk to the store manager. Better yet, try talking to them. You would be amazed to find out that the people you regard as nothing more than animals, are actually human beings trying to live their lives- just like you!

But it would be a little hard to try to have a friendly chat with someone who is running down the street with your purse he/she has just ripped off you shoulder, knocking you to the ground in the process. Likewise, if you are a bank teller, store clerk or customer with a gun in your face as they demand everything you have.

I have to disagree with you on the statement that we are all a few paychecks away from being trash. There are many people out there today who have lost their jobs and have not resorted to stealing from others. People of all colors and all ethnic backgrounds who are dues paying, law abiding citizens abhor the "trash" who steal what you have rather than work for it. These law abiding citizens would not steal your cellphone, you Wii, your rims, your car, etc., just because they wanted those items. The 'trash' isn't out there stealing a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter to feed their family.

Sadly to say, though some of these crimes are committed bu whites, the majority seem to be committed by blacks. To state this is not racist, just realistic. We all want to be able to go to the mall, the movies, the grocery store, ball game etc., and feel safe. We need to get rid of the trash regardless of race, ethnicity or gender.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Hope all your experiences are good ones.

First, no matter how hard times are, I nor anyone I know would turn to robbing anyone or any establishment. So I dont know who you know that would be "trashy" enough to turn to these means if paychecks are small.

It must be nice to be able to walk around with those lovely rose colored glasses on. I used to live in PTC and moved back to Fville for personal and financial reasons. I also grew up and graduated hs in NY. If you take a look around the pavillion, you see why citizens don't want to shop there. Talking to store Mgrs is a waste of time when they themselves are juist as weary about the surroundings.

The fact that EVERY description of the perps are that they are black, doesnt make it any easier to shop day or night there when you see 90% of the tags are Clayton County, their teens are hanging out up there and harassing you as you walk with your 7 yr old to your car.

The fact that almost a year ago there were Riverdale HS stuudents at the light on 314 asking for donations for their track team wasnt brazen enough, when I politely declined, having to hear them mumble,"Stingy, white..b*@ch" as they turned away.

Now you tell me momster35, is it still friendly diversity that we have here in Fayette County?

The headline should read.....Willie Bee robs bank before tennis match....Seriously?

That the Pavilion was safe and it was "mean spirited" people like me that was the problem... Gee... do ya think she might've been.... WRONG?

Just because the description is very, very, familiar. The brothers from clayton are misunderstood.

Maybe he was taking up a collection for the lower 9th ward? Ok, that wasn't really a serious suggestion. Maybe his drug dealer stopped taking stolen credit cards? Maybe the package store won't accept food stamps or cash a welfare check? It could be any number of things......

Seriously there is no reason for any of us to be without a carry conceal permit. We all need to be able to defend our lives.
There is nothing at the pavillion that can't be bought in Buckhead, or online. The cops are doing the best they can against rabid thugs, we are just too close to clayton and fulton.

Be safe, and be ready to defend your life.

Why are all yours statements so emerged in hatred of others? What does the 9th ward have to do with EVERYTHING you comment on?

Do you hate the least of the world? Where is all the venom coming from?

Thanks Skyspy! I'm new to Fayette County and I was confused as to why I get funny stares when I register my kids for school or soccer. People are scared of blacks in Fayette. And young blacks are espically scary I'll bet. But you do know that if a black guy can afford to pay $460,000 to buy a house in White Water school district they aren't going to car jack you for your Toyota Corolla.

I completely agree with you when you say that there is no reason for any of "us" not be without a carry conceal permit. You guys should be armed. Lord knows I am. Urban sprawl is on its way.

But let me give you guys a couple of pointers. If you see a black guy and he has $400 Italian shoes on he probably won't snatch your purse. It is hard to run in those soft bottom shoes. But if he has $200 Nikes you might need to worry.

Stay strapped Fayette!

OK, that explains why I saw a ton of law enforcement from the county and city in the Pavillion across the street from RBC and units all over the area at around 6pm. Pretty brazen robbery. This is getting out of hand and it's not from inadequate law enforcement, it's an invasion of scum from the periphery of Fayette that seem to have the perception that it's easy pickings in this county.

Deputies were stationed all along New Hope, as far up as Fayette Christian. I guess they were trying to cut the guy off if he darted out from those neighborhoods. Cop copter circling around, too.

Seems to have been a very fast response. My wife and daughter were at the light at the Pavillion & 314 minutes after 5:00 and the cops were already all over the place. They were still out when I ran an errand a bit later.

The fast response time might be because Randall was in the bank.
Correction: Randall was nearby, not inside the bank. I should have confirmed what someone told me, before I posted that.

I don't know if you have ever noticed it or not but a bank robbery draws police to that bank like flies to a lake of honey. Of course the investigation is done by the FBI since it is a bank, but it is an excellent opportunity for public relations.

Also, in the majority of cases these guys or gals who rob banks do get away initially since it only takes them 5-6 minutes to be miles away in any given direction. Pictures do eventually get them in some cases about their 5th or so bank.

But it is fascinating to see the response after the fact when a "bank" robbery comes over the communications network.
Not so much for Joe's Dollar Store!

It's logical, really. Most all banks are outfitted with silent alarms within a hand's reach of nearly every employee that bypass the 911 system and go straight to patrol units on the street. Think about it: Do you ever see a bank manager calling AFTER the fact to report a robbery? Police alway seem to "know" ... In this case, somebody likely tripped the alarm as soon as the dude walked in with a gun (I've been asked to take off my hat and sunglasses by guards before!) sending every cop car within 10 miles en route before he walked out the door. You often hear about them pulling into the parking lot just in time ... or that's how it goes on TV.

First of all let me say that Fayetteville has an outstanding police force, and have done a tremendous job of protecting our fine community. It's really a shame that a bunch of no-good, cowardly, lazy, shiftless punks choose to prey upon the innocent because they are too stupid and lazy to go out and get a real job.

If you don't own a firearm, I highly suggest you purchase a good one, take classes on how to handle a firearm, and keep it with you at all times when visiting Fayetteville. It is no longer the safe haven it used to be before the Clayton County crime wave moved in.

Protect you and your family at all costs. Don't hesitate to use your weapon to defend life and property. Our city is too good to let a bunch of hoodlums run loose around us.

Now that is odd.

I feel badly for shopowners in Fayette county. Their sphincter must tighten a little whenever a black male enters the establishment.

If you have to go near the pavillion, make sure you are fully aware of your surroundings at all times. Park as close to the entrance of the store you are visiting.

Don't be afraid to profile. We know who the enemy is.
