Glenn Griffin’s first game as a head coach was one he will not soon forget.

Sophomore quarterback Cam Porter completed 12 of 20 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions, in his first career varsity start to lead the McIntosh Chiefs to a 28-7 victory Friday over the Forsyth Central Bulldogs in the teams’ season opener in Peachtree City.

It was the first-ever victory for Griffin as a head coach. He was an assistant coach for 26 years before accepting McIntosh’s head coaching job in March.

Griffin previously served as Starr’s Mill’s defensive coordinator since 1992, the year the school opened.

“It’s a really big win for our program,” Griffin said. “I couldn’t have asked for it to be any better for an opener. But I’m more concerned about getting the win for this program than winning my first game as a head coach. Obviously, people judge you by wins, but I want to see the program advance. I’m really excited for the kids.

“We have made some progress, but we still have a lot of things to work on with our new offense and defense.”

McIntosh’s new offense, under the direction of new offensive coordinator Brad Campbell, paid immediate dividends, scoring the school’s most points since a 61-35 loss to Fayette County in 2006.

The Chiefs finished with 356 total yards of offense. Porter accounted for all of McIntosh’s passing yards.

McIntosh had a balanced offensive attack, adding 107 yards rushing.

The Chiefs caught a break early when linebacker Andrew Graham forced a fumble at the Chiefs’ goal line in the first quarter, and teammate Darius Miliam recovered.

A few plays later, Porter threw his first touchdown pass of the night, a 90-yarder to wide receiver Bradley Larson.

The Bulldogs answered with a touchdown run later in the first quarter.

McIntosh’s defense stifled Forsyth Central’s offense the rest of the way, not allowing another point. And the Chiefs’ offense continued to produce big plays: a 42-yard touchdown pass from Porter to Larson in the second quarter, an 18-yard touchdown pass from Porter to Nick Morrow in the third quarter and a 15-yard touchdown run by Miliam in the fourth quarter.

Larson had only two catches for the Chiefs, but both went for touchdowns. Wide receiver Nathan Enzor was another one of Porter’s favorite targets, catching five passes for 68 yards.

Daiyaan Epps was McIntosh's leading rusher with 10 carries for 65 yards.

Graham (nine total tackles, one forced fumble, one pass deflection that was intercepted by strong safety Daniel Price) and defensive end Jeremy Thompson (eight total tackles) were the standouts for a McIntosh defense that limited Stockbridge to 180 yards of total offense, including only 3 yards passing.
