Newnan resident Harold Space has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted on charges of receiving child pornography via the Internet.

Space, 45, was sentenced Aug. 28 by U.S. District Judge Jack Camp, according to U.S. Attorney David Nahmias. The sentence also included three years of supervised release after his prison term is completed, Nahmias said. Space was convicted of these charges on May 13, said Nahmias.

Nahmias said the investigation that led to the conviction began based on information supplied by the German National Police (GNP).

“The investigation started with a referral to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from GNP after the agency arrested a child pornography distributor ring in Germany,” Nahmias said. “Records seized by GNP revealed addresses on the worldwide web to which the distributor sent child porn. The GNP sent that information to ICE agents who then identified one of the Internet addresses as being located at Space’s home address.

“After additional investigations by Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was obtained, the computer was seized and a forensic examination led to the discovery of child pornography. Several hundred images were found of prepubescent boys engaging in explicit sexual acts.”

Space had a 1991 conviction in New York for second-degree attempted sodomy in a case that involved two boys, aged 12 and 13, Nahmias said.

Repeat offender gets off light.

Lets hope the inmates take care of him like they did Dahmer. A second offence should warrant the death penalty. Our criminal justice system is broken.

This pervert had a previous conviction and only got 10 years?? I would think that 25+ years would be a more appropriate sentence. At 45 years of age it's extremely doubtful that he going to change his ways. Maybe someone will have an attack of common sense and put him in the general prison population where he can make some "new friends".
