SPLOST: $4 Million Dollars for ARTIFICIAL TURF?

sniffles5's picture

I actually got a peek at the school board's formal SPLOST documentation this morning. Buried in the details was a line item for replacing the grass at Fayette county stadiums with artificial turf.

That's right, artificial turf.

Hey, we're not in a recession, right? Might as well put in artificial turf because the parents of Fayette county students have been clamoring for it for years now...right? Right? Hello?

Naturally, there was no cost associated with this line item, but couple of phone calls later I found out it takes about $850,000 to rip up sod and lay down a sparkling new astroturf carpet. 5 athletic fields, $850K, hmmmm.....$4.25 million dollars.

Just remember, folks, they said if you don't support the SPLOST you are taking your anger at the school board out on the kids.

You have got to be kidding! I'm dazed and amazed! The 3 amigos are really sticking it to us. People are hurting now, loosing homes, jobs, can't find jobs, food going up, and gas still too high for the commute a lot have, and we are going to pay 4 plus million for astro turf? Sniffles, I'm glad you found that. Why don't they just tell us all to eat cake if we are starving?

If any of us had doubts, I think that just clinched it! There is not a shred of compassion for the taxpayers.

the computer. This woke me up. To take taxpayers money in times like this for astro turf and an aquatic center is sheer arrogance. How bout valet parking?

What happened to the paraproes they wanted to take good care of? I'm sure they will feel their future very secure knowing we got 4 million dollar artificial grass.

I think the only word that describes some on the BOE is decadent!

you know, this reminds me of the poor girl who marries the millionaire and goes nuts spending. She can't quit shopping and finaly spends all his money. I think someone is sick from too much power and control of more money than they have ever seen in their life.

They don't have to pay anything.
They don't have to take a pay cut.
All they have to do is raise our taxes....

After all, it IS for the children... !!

Well, 22 of them anyway who may use it 1 night every other week for 3 or 4 months.

But if we don't pass the SPLOSH, then they'll be sure to cut the high profile jobs that'll get the most press, certainly not the so called "non-essential" payrolls. That wouldn't get the tears and emotion of the ignorant.... and the press...

Just look at the water they will save!
I calculate that they will wear out 36 artificial fields before they pay for the initial installation!

Also, we will have hundreds of high-school boys with damaged knees and ankles!

Those football players could mow their field themselves for exercise and save some money!

Reminds me of providing limos to haul around public servants!
