...and no matter what Republicans try to do, America agrees with this assessment. Who cares about Obama's brother at this point? We can't fill our gas tanks to get to work - if we have a job!!! Jack Cafferty is with CNN.

Is McCain another George W. Bush? By Jack Cafferty.[August 20, 2008].

Commentary: Is McCain another George W. Bush? - CNN.com: NEW YORK (CNN) -- Russia invades Georgia and President Bush goes on vacation. Our president has spent one-third of his entire two terms in office either at Camp David, Maryland, or at Crawford, Texas, on vacation.

His time away from the Oval Office included the month leading up to 9/11, when there were signs Osama bin Laden was planning to attack America, and the time Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city of New Orleans.

Sen. John McCain takes weekends off and limits his campaign events to one a day. He made an exception for the religious forum on Saturday at Saddleback Church in Southern California.

I think he made a big mistake. When he was invited last spring to attend a discussion of the role of faith in his life with Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, at Messiah College in Pennsylvania, McCain didn't bother to show up. Now I know why.

It occurs to me that John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current president. When asked what his Christian faith means to him, his answer was a one-liner. "It means I'm saved and forgiven." Great scholars have wrestled with the meaning of faith for centuries. McCain then retold a story we've all heard a hundred times about a guard in Vietnam drawing a cross in the sand.

Asked about his greatest moral failure, he cited his first marriage, which ended in divorce. While saying it was his greatest moral failing, he offered nothing in the way of explanation. Why not?

Throughout the evening, McCain chose to recite portions of his stump speech as answers to the questions he was being asked. Why? He has lived 71 years. Surely he has some thoughts on what it all means that go beyond canned answers culled from the same speech he delivers every day.

He was asked "if evil exists." His response was to repeat for the umpteenth time that Osama bin Laden is a bad man and he will pursue him to "the gates of hell." That was it.

He was asked to define rich. After trying to dodge the question -- his wife is worth a reported $100 million -- he finally said he thought an income of $5 million was rich.

One after another, McCain's answers were shallow, simplistic, and trite. He showed the same intellectual curiosity that George Bush has -- virtually none.

Where are John McCain's writings exploring the vexing moral issues of our time? Where are his position papers setting forth his careful consideration of foreign policy, the welfare state, education, America's moral responsibility in the world, etc., etc., etc.?

John McCain graduated 894th in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. His father and grandfather were four star admirals in the Navy. Some have suggested that might have played a role in McCain being admitted. His academic record was awful. And it shows over and over again whenever McCain is called upon to think on his feet.

He no longer allows reporters unfettered access to him aboard the "Straight Talk Express" for a reason. He simply makes too many mistakes. Unless he's reciting talking points or reading from notes or a TelePrompTer, John McCain is lost. He can drop bon mots at a bowling alley or diner -- short glib responses that get a chuckle, but beyond that McCain gets in over his head very quickly.

I am sick and tired of the president of the United States embarrassing me. The world we live in is too complex to entrust it to someone else whose idea of intellectual curiosity and grasp of foreign policy issues is to tell us he can look into Vladimir Putin's eyes and see into his soul.

George Bush's record as a student, military man, businessman and leader of the free world is one of constant failure. And the part that troubles me most is he seems content with himself.

He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens' faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.

I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.

David's Mom,

You asked, "Who cares about Obama's brother at this point?"

Well, certainly not his brother, Barack Obama or his wife Michelle. Otherwise, I'm sure he would be living on more than $1 per month.

I think it will be better to stick to the issues, rather than 'vet' the 'moral' history of the two candidates.

Obama: Married - Once

Admitted 'moral' weakness - teenage use of drugs and alcohol

McCain: Married - Twice (Left wife while she suffered from cancer)

Admitted 'Moral’ Weakness (Failure of his first marriage)

Are there any 'issues' that you care to discuss? We remember when the Republican 'rumor mongers' went after McCain and his 'black daughter'. Intimating that he had a relationship with a 'black' woman - when actually Cindy had adopted a lovely girl from Bangladesh. Your attempt to denigrate Obama in this manner regarding a 'rumor' surrounding his brother - (which by the way his brother has commented on it - but of course you and the 'conservative' media would not want to 'report' his comments.) Our country is in trouble - we don't need for radical right-wingers like you to appeal to what you think is the interest of most Americans. You exposed yourselves in the last election - we see you for what you are. There will be other reasons for people to make their decision in November. Their decisions will be based on what party will get us back on the road to peace, security, and world respect.

If "America agrees with this assessment", as you state, why is Barack barely hanging onto a 2% lead in the polls?

It is because America now sees that he is bereft of charachter, intelligence, experience, common sense, and decency. It probably came from attending a racist, hate-filled, anti-American church for over 20 years.

I am John McCain. I do not want to talk about it, but have you heard that I am a Vietnam POW?

If you criticize me for lack of character (7 or more houses and Miss Buffalo Chip), how dare you. Don't you know I am a Vietnam POW?

If you say I don't know anything about the economy, do you not know that a I am a Vietnam POW?

If you wonder why I have not released my military service records, have you not heard that I am a Vietnam POW?

If you ask how I could cheat on my wife for a young rich blond, have you not heard that I am a Vietnam POW?

Do you bring up my involvement in the Keating 5 scandal? You should be ashamed because I am a Vietnam POW.

I know how to win wars. You do not believe this? I am a Vietnam POW so know all about wars. Even those I have no clue about.

So I resent any negative comments about me or my family because I am a Vietnam POW.

End of argument.

This is getting very old.

Unless the mainstream media reports it, no way I believe it. Never mind than around 90% of them vote Dem.

Maybe if Obama worked harder and had more homes, he could help out his Brother.

Could go live with Cindy McCain's step sister. She got $10,000 in the will. Cindy got the other hundred million.

Hey Jeff, speaking of Cindy McCain, I heard today that Cindy McCain made John McCain sign a pre-nuptial agreement before she'd marry him (very prudent, methinks, given McCain's history of adultery).

If Cindy McCain doesn't trust John with her money, why should America trust him?

C'mon, Sniffles...you liberals were as quiet as a church mouse when Bill Clinton was sexually assaulting his way across the Midwest and in to the Oval Office. Why the morality now ? Huh? You couldn't even trust Bill with the Oval Office draperies.

Of their first meeting, McCain said, "She was lovely, intelligent and charming, 17 years my junior but poised and confident. I monopolized her attention the entire time, taking care to prevent anyone else from intruding on our conversation. When it came time to leave the party, I persuaded her to join me for drinks at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. By the evening's end, I was in love."

A sweet and charming story. Unless you were his starter-wife-at-the-time.

Well, Jeff – that one sure is a knee-slapper. I almost fell off my chair on that one. Barack’s brother is in Africa, barely surviving on $1.00 month, while Barack continually berates America about it’s own moral failings. When Pastor Rick Warren asked Barack about what he considered America’s greatest moral failure at the recent Saddleback “Civil Forum on the Presidency,” Senator Obama answered by saying, “its insufficient help to the disadvantaged.” Senator Obama then referenced the Bible and quoted Jesus’ admonition that, “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”
Meanwhile, Barack's own brother is destitute and on the verge of starvation. So much for doing for the "least of my brothers".

In contrast, Senator McCain and his wife adopted a poor girl from Bangledesh. Barack is a cad and hypocrite at best. How dare he continually berate America for not living up to it’s promise, when he won’t even help out his own family. What a snake.

Fred - First of all, Barrack Obama's 'brother' is actually his 'half-brother' from his natural father. Obama's father left him and his mother when he was very young and started a new family in Kenya. It wasn't until fairly recently that each of these men found out they were even related. 'George' Obama does live in Africa - Kenya to be exact - and his living conditions may not live up to United Sates Standards, but he is not barely surviving as you would have people believe. He actually goes to a community college and is studying to be a Mechanic. If you google his name, you can watch a video of him being interviewed. He's dressed in a nice pair of jeans, a button down shirt, pull over sweater and nice sneakers. Plus, who knows what Barrack and George's arrangements or relationship is. Maybe he's just not plastering it all over the media.

And, in contrast, Cindi McCain has told dozens of reporters that she is an 'only child', when she in fact has TWO half-sisters - one on her mother's side and one on her father's. I guess she isn't considered a cad and a hypocrite though because, after all, at least one of her sister's got $10,000 from daddy's will, right?

We know that for decades the Republican strategery for diverting attention from issues to bogus and banal trivialities has worked well for them but we have also learned to check out the facts.

CNN interviewed George Obama in Kenya which you can read here:

Meet George Obama

Or you can just skip right to the good part:

But reports surfaced in the past few days, springing from an Italian Vanity Fair article saying George Obama is living in a shack and "earning less than a dollar a day."

The reports left him angry.

"I was brought up well. I live well even now," he said. "The magazines, they have exaggerated everything.

First of all, the article is suspect to begin with because it comes from a left-wing liberal website that's in the tank for Obama. CNN makes stuff up as they go along.

Second, George is standing in front of a shack in the picture.

Nice shack, George!

You won't believe a quote from George himself but you'll believe what you want to believe anyway.

Suits me.
