Commissioner-elect Hearn expects ‘well-oiled machine’

Former Fayette County Public Works Director Lee Hearn is ready to get to work on the Fayette County Commission.

With all the precincts counted from last week’s runoff, Hearn garnered 3,503 votes, or 59.8 percent, while Commissioner Peter Pfeifer received 2,354 votes for 40.2 percent of the votes.

“This was the most humbling thing I’ve encountered. A lot of people helped me in this effort, and I’m really grateful,” he said.

When Hearn takes office in January, he already knows where he wants to focus.

“Being involved in transportation for the last 17 years, I want to take a look at a lot of our transportation projects and see if there’s any way I can move them along,” he said.

Hearn headed the Public Works Department when Fayette County passed a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax in 2004 to fund future projects. The tax began April 1, 2005, and will continue through March 31, 2010, or until $115,857,267 is collected, whichever occurs first.

Some of the major projects paid by the tax include the West Fayetteville Bypass, which has already started, the East Fayetteville Bypass and the widening of Jimmy Mayfield Boulevard.

Hearn also looks forward to working with his fellow commissioners and believes the commission will work like a “well-oiled machine.”

I just about busted out laughing at this statement. Yeah, it's a well-oiled machine that greased the way for their newest puppet to get elected. As a matter of fact, Hearn and the greasers were seen working on their strategy at a particular place after Thursday's commission meeting.

Coincidence? NOT.
