The economy may be in a downturn across the country, but that does not mean future plans cannot be put in place. That was the case Aug. 5 when Peachtree City-based Pathway Communities got the okay from Coweta County Commission to hold a public hearing Sept. 11 on a proposed rezoning for a 23.7-acre retail component of the Twelve Parks development in southeast Coweta.

The proposed shopping center will feature 77,500 square feet of retail space, including a 50,000 square-foot anchor, and two office buildings totaling 15,000 square feet. The rezoning request would transition the property from RC (Rural Conservation) to O-I (Office-Institutional) and C-7 (Commercial Major Shopping District).

The property is located at the southeast corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Reese Road.

Pathway vice president for land development Gene Lavine said the company is opening a temporary information center to reach out to area residents on the commercial portion of the 491-acre master-planned development.

The information center will be located at 1328 Reese Road, approximately 0.8 miles east of the intersection of Reese Road and Hwy.54, and will be open August 20 and 21 from 4-7 p.m. and August 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Pathway has already completed rezoning for the residential component of the development located along Hwy. 54, Reese Road and McIntosh Trail. The community will have 694 homes ranging from $200,000-400,000. The development will also feature a Georgia Environmental Protection Division-approved residential water re-use wastewater treatment facility.

And all the increase of traffic due to this gigantic commercial and residential development in Coweta will come to PTC on their way to I-85, either on Hwy 54 or thru the proposed bridge over the creek. Shouldn't we have a say on all this?

You better take a good look at PTC before you buy off on anything Pathways communities will sell you. Take a really good look at the dump they sold us underneath the police station that we can't use. Take an extra good look at the moldy tennis center that was part of an illegal loan and to top it off the building was not built correctly so yes....we have mold. Yes the Pathways group will continue to rape you for years. Good Luck!!

Build it and when the money doesn't flow in, the taxpayers will foot the bill; just like the tennis center in PTC.

Oh, another main buisness hint: put in the same low end retail that we have in PTC, you know nail salons, a couple of discount tire places and then top it off with a mexican restaurant. That is the formula for empty strip malls. Best wishes.

PS: also see if you can scare up a sorry buisnessman to get the taxpayers to build and buy a buisness for him. See if he can get you to agree to rent terms that don't even cover the interest payment on the buisness failure he wants the taxpayers to buy for him. Great formula for success.

Rock on and good luck!
