A Fayetteville man arrested for cocaine possession Saturday morning managed to briefly escape from a patrol car after he kicked out the rear windshield while the vehicle was moving.

But the suspect didn’t get far and was nabbed by the officer who was trying to take him to a hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.

The suspect, Nkengen Dwan Hambrick, 28, of Washington Avenue was arrested for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute after he was spotted behind a house near Jordan Salvage on Ga. Highway 54 and Jeff Davis Drive pulling a bag of white powder from his pockets, police said. The bag contained smaller bags of suspected cocaine, police said.

Hambrick managed to break through the windshield and scramble out the rear of the patrol car, but once the officer was able to park the vehicle near the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 85, Hambrick was quickly apprehended, police said.

Hambrick was being taken for medical treatment because officers were worried he was intoxicated because he was yelling, screaming and being combative during the incident, police said.

In addition to the cocaine charge, Hambrick has been charged with obstructing a police officer, escape, interference with government property and a traffic offense, police said.
