Faced with a contingency fund of less than $80,000 for the remainder of this fiscal year, the Peachtree City Council will decide Thursday night on ponying up $10,000 as its share of an interchange modification study.

The Fayette County Commission has already tossed in $40,000 from a special local option sales tax to help with the study that is being promoted by the Tri-County Alliance, according to a city staff memo to the council.

“Approval of these funds will enable TCA to initiate the [study]. which is the first step in getting this project seriously considered for implementation by Georgia Department of Transportation,” the memo of July 31 said.

TCA already has raised $50,000 of the estimated $100,000 cost of the study from Fairburn and the South Fulton Community Improvement District.

TCA wants to get the study underway this September. Participants in the TCA’s congestion relief accord besides Peachtree City, the South Fulton CID and Fairburn are Union City, Senoia, Fulton and Coweta counties.

TCA says it considers relief of traffic congestion at the I-85/Hwy. 74 interchange to be its top priority. — Cal Beverly

I say spend the 10,000 studying 54/74 and let someone else worry about the Interstate!

I say spend the money, this intersection needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Let's get the ball moving.
