54/74 junction is PTC’s most dangerous intersection

The place you are most likely to have a wreck in Peachtree City is right where you’d probably guess: The busy intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74.

That intersection leads all others in the city with 48 wrecks so far this year, three times more than its nearest competitor, according to figures from the Peachtree City Police Department.

The number two accident location in the city is Hwy. 54 at its intersection with Peachtree Parkway, just about the geographic center of the city.

So far this year, it has seen 16 automobile collisions.

Rounding out the top five are Hwy. 54 and Huddleston Drive (12 wrecks), Hwy. 74 and Clover Reach (11 collisions) and Hwy. 74 and Kelly Drive (11 wrecks).

The department is reporting that during the month of June it investigated four robberies, two aggravated assaults, nine motor vehicle thefts, nine burglaries and 30 thefts.

The department’s report to City Council says that during June its officers made 14 arrests of adults driving under the influence and nine minors in possession of alcohol.

During June, police said, there were nine arrests for marijuana and one for cocaine.

You know that little stick that comes out of the steering wheel (on the left hand side)? That allows you to activate your turn indicators. Those are the flashy things on the front, back and, sometimes, the side of your car. If you use them properly to indicate that you're turning (hence the name), and you can avoid getting into incidents. No such thing as an accident. It's not like the turn signal is located behind your seat, far out of the way. The car designers placed it in the most convenient place they could think of, and it just takes a flick of the pinky. How lazy do you have to be to not activate it prior to a turn. Sorry, I only made it to chapter 2 of mind reading.

BTW, there is no reason to be on your cell phone while backing out of a parking space. Either wait to make your call, or hang up before you roll over me and my children. Perhaps the new safety device for minivans should be a giant pink and black soccer ball mounted to the roof, that strobes to allow all of us to know that mommy is on the phone and completely distracted by her self importance.

Sorry. Just had to vent on moronic drivers, intent on killing me and my family.

Especially the cell phone thing. A co-worker checks her voice mail everytime she gets in the car and as she is buckling up, backing up, leaving the parking lot - in other words - when she is most distracted, she adds another distraction. I asked her once why she can't wait until she's on the highway - about 1 minute later. Answer - she's afraid she may miss something.

So stupid and someday she or someone else will back over a kid or a dog.

Two schools are on Lester Rd in Fayetteville and there is no traffic light on 54 & Huiet Rd! There have already been a few accidents here. Talk about a bad intersection! Install a traffic light before somebody else gets hurt!

There are intersections in other places with ten times the traffic of 54/74 intersection, that have fewer accidents than this one.

This is about the worst designed one I have ever seen! It is on a slant making vision poor, and it is way too far across it---one can start out with nothing sight and get creamed by a light change while you are traveling.

It should have been a crossover bridge initially and will eventually have to be. I suppose a thousand more wrecks will do the trick!

This is "Lenox Junction" in case you don't remember!

Same guy designed it that designed the Post Office Lot!

I'm not sure how serious you are to need to know the names of other intersections! Sounds like a bluff!

Howevr, just one would be 54/GA85!

There are scores of them in Atlanta!

There are many intersection in the Atlanta area with many more times the traffic and fewer accidents, and you know it!
It also will get twice as bad shortly! Seen what is going on at the county line and beyond?

Just think how bad when MARTA stops at the RR tracks!

We don't have any long term thinkers around here!

By the way, in 2006, 85/54 had 3,000 more cars per day than 54/74(26,000 vs. 23,000). I'd imagine at this point they are either about the same or 54/74 has slightly more.

They didn't grade it properly either. They just paved over what was there. How could anyone design handicapped parking and access that goes uphill? When the city put a stop work order on them and told them to go back and do it right the contractor started to do that and the post office overruled him said that federal agencies do not have to obey local ordinances. City council decided not to pursue the issue in court (I sure would have) because of the expense. The year? 1986, I think.

Pay attention to the pavement next time to are there.

All intersections are dangerous now because we (the old folks) are driving with a generation that thinks you should accelerate when you see a yellow light. My generation was taught to slow down and stop.
