PTC: Roofing Permits?

muddle's picture

Someone in our family has a roofing business in NC, and has agreed to put a new roof on a house in PTC for us. He wants to start tomorrow--Sunday.

I'm wondering how things work with pulling permits, etc., in PTC.

I'm adding this comment to draw attention to my query in the blog. Smiling

Ah, I see they want to start tomorrow. They might want to check their "workmen's" insurance policy to ensure there is out-of-state coverage.

A good point. I'll pass that on. It might not be a consideration, as he plans to do the job himself, alone, on this smaller home.

I found this on the PTC website:

"Examples of items that will require permits are Accessory Buildings (sheds, detached garages, etc.), fences, swimming pools, decks, covered porches, retaining walls, and roof reconfigurations (not new shingles). A call to the Building Department can inform you as to whether or not your project will require a permit."

He does not plan to add a steeple, turret, pinnacle, guard tower, or gable. It's just a tear-off and re-shingling. So it looks like no permit is required, right?
