It is not exactly the Dean’s List. It is better. Fayette County public schools are one of 34 school systems in Georgia with 100 percent of its schools making the federally-required Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

Fayette is also on of only a handful in the state with 100 percent AYP rankings for the past five years.

Fayette is among 34 systems in Georgia with all schools meeting AYP requirements in 2008, school system spokesperson Melinda Berr-Dreisbach of the just released information. Of these systems, all have less than 10 schools compared to Fayette’s 28, she said, adding that Fayette is the only metro Atlanta school system with all schools having made AYP over the five-year period.

AYP is a requirement of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. It is a measure of year-to-year student achievement on statewide assessments.

This is about as meaningful as graduating from high school. It is expected. Not trying to slam our fine system, just calling it like I see it!

How come the other metro systems couldn't achieve it? Like Forsyth and Cherokee where they think everything is perfect..

I figured it wouldn't take long for some to come on here and rip at this article.

My comment was a compliment. We expect competency. We celebrate excellence.

We do not have the same student population. This is a slam-dunk for our system, not something that should be seen as a great accolade.

Demographics?

Who said it was a "great accolade"? I merely said it must not be that easy if NO one else with school system approaching the size of ours in Georgia acomplishged it. Yet some, will continue to dismiss it offhand.

These blogs crack me up.
