Tyrone Sets Property Tax Rate

At a special called meeting on July 23, advertised to discuss employee insurance plans, Tyrone’s new and “open council” added to their agenda the setting of the property tax rate for 2008. This is the group that ran on open government, but their actions are anything but open (they act more like the County Commission did when Grace Caldwell was on it…wonder where this group learned how to be so deceitful). Why would any group of elected officials sneak the setting of the property tax rate onto an agenda at a special called meeting unless they either had something to hide or simply have no regard for the citizens that elected them. We have complained about the old council but compared to this group they were much more open with the citizens, in fact, if I remember correctly they held three public hearings before setting the tax rate. I also notice that the Citizen Newspaper’s investigative arm is very silent on this, (guess Cal’s endorsement is worth something).

Is everyone supposed to read the Tyrone Website every minute of every day to see if a Special Meeting of the Council is called? Old, New and Future governments are all secret.

What is being done about the missing public funds. I guess that's not important, its only criminal!

You can train a monkey to do anything, if you have attended a Tyrone council meeting you can see for yourself. Tyrone is quickly becoming the next Union City, can you see that there are more empty buildings and homes than ever before. This adminsiatration has allowed the likes of Smith,Pecks to run the commercial real estate market and building in Tyrone and have successfully stopped any clean business from coming to Tyrone, This adminsitration has vendetta style stopped the growth of any new developements. Gone after everyone that did not support them.

Do you smell what Dial, young, furr and Caldwell, and administration are cooking? Nothing good. This town has more high paying positions than it ever did ( Town Manager, Engineer, legal dept.) and a Mayor in training.
They have demoralized the town employees, cut there wages and benifits. what have the citizens of Tyrone recieved, less police protection, less library programs, a horible mosquito trap ( Shamrock Park)that looks like it belongs in South Central, higher taxes. I am sure I missed somthing but you get the picture. A GHETTO.

Tyrone not a ghetto, just a stupo.

I don't know if you are Jittery Joe, or Snella, or the obese woman firefighter that drives to the other side of Atlanta everyday for a job...Who ever you are, you need to stop. It doesn't look good and you are not making anyone see things the way you would like. I don't know who Smith/Pecks. Problem is, you seem to be jealous and it shows. If your wife catches you, it is gonna be bad. Not good for the image, if you think you have one.

I'm pretty sure stupo tnag is the obese one.

The Council has retained your sacred zoning ordinance which is responsible for running out business. This should make you happy. Amos and the old Council's live on in this masterpiece of legislation that would make the likes of Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson & John Adams very proud. Why don't you run for Mayor; then you could resurrect those wonderful days of yesteryear when Barry made his own laws and Valerie kept no payroll records. The timing is right. You could take office at about the time Barry & Valerie come up for parol and rehire them.

Nothing is being done to make attractive the empty spaces of businesses. The citizens are hit with a tax hike and things are ignored. How sad. Margot, you and Tyrone Confidential are not going to change the ordinances now. I thought you stood a chance when the new mayor and council went into office. You are focused on Barry and Valerie, STILL, but none of the problems you blamed on them have changed. Have looked at what you want to see this town become in the future? The planning commision is a joke, there is no plans to improve the downtown area to bring in visitors and the money spent on the new attorneys, planners and engineers are a ridiculous. Policy on purchasing is sub-standard and Tyrone could fade away or be passed on by.
Old beach bear, ragg-head or missy-sippy what ever name you are using on this site: You really need a life. You thrive on hate doaling, racist comments about many people that live in the town and in the county. I think you need to take a hard look in the mirror prior to calling people names, using people's last names in negative way or spewing your usual rhetoric.

Just what could a government do in the “big picture” to make empty businesses more attractive. First of all, these spaces are privately owned property. Would you have clueless bureaucrats pass a law that would require owners to spend money on beautification? How about making the land uses less restrictive so that market forces would take over allowing businesses who could make a profit move in? Would you have Tyrone pass a law to outlaw business recessions? Or would some incentive such as lowering business and property taxes to automatically increase profits be better? Did you know that the majority of sales comes from outside of Tyrone?

The Zoning Ordinances will be changed by courts because they are clearly unconstitutional. Of course this will come at great expense in town legal fees. Did you know that every common sense question posed to town management is turned over to the lawyers who actually make all the decisions. Lawyers love it because they can drag out solutions thereby increasing their fees.

Did you know that lawsuits, although being delayed in court by the lawyers, have already caused abandonment in practice of many zoning regulations? Tyrone has been forced to stop issuing business licenses to regulate land uses because Barry & Valerie were illegally using an Occupational Tax as a Business License. The law of non-conforming uses is now being observed. The past illegal application of the sign ordinance is now on hold for legal review. The case of negligence and fraudulent misrepresentation is all but won with the evidence against Barry & Valerie now verified. That Barry made the purchasing policy sub-standard.

Focusing on removing Barry & Valerie was key to stopping all the illegalities. They just did as they pleased without following the law. The misappropriated public funds issue must be followed to conclusion to punish the wrongdoers and send a message to future governments in Tyrone that all officials better start following the law; and use common sense solutions in disputes instead of using taxpayers’ money for legal fees to defend the indefensible. In a metaphoric sense, Shakespeare was right when he wrote, “when we get in control, the first thing we’ll do is kill all the lawyers”.

I agree with that statement. How is your lawsuit going BTW? They had the chance to avoid the courts and they went with the decisions made from previous leadership. Why? What is the town doing to encourage business into it? Yes, I expect them to market the area and yes I know the majoriy of sales come from outside the area.
If the purchasing policy was sub-standard from previous leadership then why has it not been updated and corrected? Why does the town leaders pick and choose the people or businesses they use instead of a bid process? Valerie and Barry are GONE. Why is it that leadership have not changed things? They still use the underhanded tactics of advertising a meeting for one thing and at the last minute adding what they really wanted to add.
My point is although that there were things done in the last administration but nothing has changed so what is the difference. The lights are off, the party is over and open government and change really did not happen.

Bad Morning Snell. Look who's talking! What a joke!

I have a life Snell, much better than yours. I'm not a racist nor have made racist remarks here in the blogs.

I DON'T LIKE YOU!, Shaquita/Tnag/Sogreen/Sowhy, Barnie & Thelma. That makes me a racist?

I don't have to take a hard look in the mirror before calling Tnag an obese. Well, at least I can thank Tnag for supporting the eating places in town. Hopefully some of the fitness gyms too.

When there's a story in the paper the new group found ...better ...insurance for the employees at $105,00., than the old group at $284,613., it does draw every one's attention ...back...to how badly the old council and town management ran things. That is 1/3 the cost! and that was Barney and Thelma's only job, running the town! What were they doing?

I'm sick of your garbage about downtown. You attempted to make a detour of downtown out of Trickum Creek Rd as if 74 wasn't one already. When that didn't work, you gave some developer the ok to use the right of way for Tyrone Palmetto so as to deter traffic. If there is no traffic, there is no business dumbo! You can't have it both ways. Then you decided, without the input of the citizens, you were gonna put dense housing downtown even though we don't have sewer and it would cost the locals plenty to do so. You brought ..no..industry/jobs into this area, all you wanted was to suck up to the developers. This town ...was...up for sale to the highest bidder. With every new development we saw our taxes move higher. You are the reason for higher taxes. The new group has tried to clean up after you.

As for your ideas of me thriving on hate, you are the one who needs the mirror to the face. You are so jealous of the new group it is eating you alive. Anyone who reads these blogs sees it. They have gotten the job you wanted so bad and doing wonders with it where you failed, and you can't stand it! The better group is in office, and it shows every day!
In closing I want to say the odd fixation on/ and jealousy of/ Grace Caldwell you have boarders on perversion!

I am no one you know, but someone who knows you. You have put so much personal information about yourself on this blog that you can not help but to know who you are. Your support of the old group amazes me ie..Furr/Caldwell. You are old beachbear with another name. The same person that spewed hate of the African American race upon the discussion of the red room. Your writing style will always tell on you. What I find amazing is that you blame higher taxes on Mr. Smolla? That you feel he singlehandedly had that much power to do so much damage to this town. I thought there were 4 votes with the fifth belonging to the mayor if there was tie. I am in no way saying that the man did not make mistakes but that one man can not do that much damage to the town.
One day soon the fact that the downtown area having no sewage is going to become a great problem. It is going to be interesting to watch.

"I am no one you know, but someone who knows you. You have put so much personal information about yourself on this blog that you can not help but to know who you are."

If you want to try to intimindate people into letting you smear half truths as facts, you are at the wrong party. You want to make people go away so you can smear others.

That isn't going to happen. I stand by what I said, you are so obsessed with Grace Caldwell, you are at it again with you poem. You are an really ugly person, and I hope the Caldwells ask the paper to identify you and have a peace bond put out on you. You are fixated. You need help.

I just told you the truth. You have put your personal life out there for all to read.We know where you worked, about your run ins with TPD, and your children because you blogged it. No one is threatening you or wants to reveal your name. The poem about the Tyrone Mayor is great. GO TJAM!

If I was the Caldwells, I would be bothered not by what you say, but the fact that you are fixated. This is not healthy, something is really wrong with you.
