City TransportationA proposal to make nine stops, I think it was, on an hour and a half run around the city, using a bus---subsidized by the city, is a loser based only on those facts! His less than a hundred thousand estimate, not including gas, is kind of like government estimates for a project---about one-fourth to one fifth of start-up money! I am for such a project however, where one can walk a block or two at most to a station pick-up point and catch a bus within 5-20 minutes from daylight until dark. Would of course require several buses and drivers, and a garage and headquarters. There is no need to start with a bus and nine stops that wouldn't carry 20 people a day! Nor run half the time. Also, must be able to ride all day for one daily ticket, and be able to buy a week's worth of tickets at a discount. No need to limit to seniors either, but wheelchair access would be required. I don't know the cost of operation of such a workable service, but I do know at current rates what people would pay as a whole. |
