Witnesses tell police fall came after domestic dispute

A woman who fell down stairs after a domestic dispute with her son Saturday afternoon has died from her injuries, Peachtree City police said.

Sharmane Phillips, 47, was knocked unconscious by the fall and was taken by medical helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center. She was initially listed in critical condition but Sunday she succumbed to her injuries and was taken off life support, police said.

Police said Monday afternoon they are actively investigating the case.

Witnesses told police that Phillips fell down the stairs to her basement following a domestic dispute with her son at 504 Willow Road. Police are asking anyone with information to call 770-487-8866 during business hours or the department’s 24-hour tip line at 770-487-6010. Callers may remain anonymous.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and will be performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

I find it confusing that this story isn't in bold print the way the
Red Room story was. If both of the incidents were tragic accidents
as reported on the Channel 5 News, then why aren't they getting the
same attention? Is there a difference. When you talked about the story of the Red Room Bar incident, there were pictures and bold
print everywhere. Not only that, most of what was being printed
was inaccurate information. While this is certainly a tragedy it is
a shame to have to look for the story in the fine print in a
column of "other news".

PEOPLE REALLY SHOULD READ THE FINE PRINT......IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THE ISSUE AT HAND WAS BETWEEN THE MOTHER AND THE SON (NOT HUSBAND,MATE,X-HUSBAND,ETC...) IF YOUR ARE GOING TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLES PERSONAL ISSUES YOUR OWN, PLEASE GET YOUR COMMENTS STRAIGHT..THIS IS SOMEONES FAMILY,DAUGHTER,MOTHER,FRIEND,ETC... MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO THIS FAMILY AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

The family deserves our prayers. This should not happen to anyone.

I pray that you will learn to use the shift key so that your blogs get read - as mine do --INSTEAD OF THIS STUPID ALL CAPS SHOUTING THAT NO ONE PAYS ATTENTION TO.

Get a grip or an education.

I don't understand why men don't just leave, instead of staying around to fight. Nothing good comes of it.

where it said there was a physical altercation.
A "domestic dispute" could mean there was an arguement.
She could have accidently fallen down those stairs because she was so upset.
If a man , or woman runs every time there is a conflict the relationship will not last long.
There is a certain amount of conflict in any healthy relationship.
In this case it had a very sad ending.
I hope she did not have help falling down those stairs, but either way, her mate will live with this the rest of his life.

of the fall, that's for sure. BUT the Police are looking for tips on this case. Sounds suspicious to me.

I NEVER think resorting to violence is the way to work out "conflicts" with your mate or Family members. Frankly, any man who does, isn't much of a MAN at all.

Sometimes, it's just better off to leave, cool off and THINK about what you want to say, instead of speaking/acting in a fit of anger.

then why would the police be offering an anonymous tip line and asking for information? And why not report the death of a woman who fell down her stairs, rather than mentioning the domestic dispute? You could be right, but the reporting suggests otherwise.

this woman had a physical altercation with her mate. Too many women stay with abusive men, and that behavior reinforces the abusive behavior. I believe the law should punish offenders more severely, but law enforcement has a hard time with domestic cases because too often the victim doesn't want to press charges or recants her statement.

This poor family is surely grieving. Post a separate blog if you want to go into the issues of domestic violence in general. We simply don't know the facts in this case. Blaming the deceased or the family member seems a bit rash.
