Importing oil

T. Bone Pickens, the Texass Oil man is now saying in his TV commercials that we can't "drill" our way out of the current crisis in oil prices and availability.
He shows pictures of wind mills and talks about natural gas as the answer, but doesn't seem to mention atomic energy or coal.

Our President and others are pushing for us to drill in the ocean of Florida and in Alaska.
I have not seen the plans for how long it would take to drill out enough oil in the ocean and Alaska, build the refineries to use it, and get it to the pumps.
Nor have I seen T. Bone's plan to build enough windmills and drill and pipe in the natural gas everywhere it is needed.
I don't think we have many natural gas service stations either. Don't the natural gas stink when burned, also?

T. Bone, also says that we Import into the USA 70% of the oil we now use.
Wouldn't we have to drill nearly as many oil wells and gas wells as we currently have plus that many more, to replace all of that importing?

I smell something beside natural gas burning!

Drilling for that dab of oil 10 years ago wouldn't have helped any with our current crisis!

We would have three times as many SUVs on the road since we would have thought we had a lifetime supply of gas!

And, the Arabs would have shut off our oil again as in the 70s and we would be no better off.

Or, two more wars would have come earlier!

We have got to get off oil!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder about your sincerity as you have berated bicycle riders in the past.

I totally agree on the big soft seat and not wearing "those clothes".

Help ease the pain on the bum. However, the first time I had them on, I was called to the hospital as my mom had an emergency, so there I am for 6 hours in the ER with bike shorts on!

calling bicycle riders "sissies" was not nice, and not accurate. The vast majority have very strong legs and a lot of endurance.

To paraphrase:
"Drill, drill, drill. If only we could have been drilling in pristine places all of this time, we would not be in the position we are in now."
Why does anyone think that prices would be lower? Are the oil companies charging less for domestically produced oil, you know, to help out fellow Americans?
Do you think that there is a logic in capping off or not retrieving domestic oil, when in the present market there may be more profit generated by holding on to the reserves that you have and letting them appreciate rather than actually producing oil?
