Bush the worst president ever? Sallie omits some real contenders

Tue, 07/15/2008 - 3:09pm
By: Letters to the ...

I was extremely offended by Sally Satterthwaite’s column in your June 25 issue. First, I imagine she offended a great portion of Fayette County with her remark that George W. Bush is the worst president ever.

What facts is she basing her opinion on? Don’t just throw out an opinion to see where it will stick without having some facts to base it on. Besides, I seem to remember a President named Jimmy Carter — economy in the dumper, oil crisis, embarrassment of a failed hostage rescue and much more. But, I digress.

I am of the opinion that President Bush’s legacy will be much redeemed at a later date, maybe after four years of Barack Obama being president, but maybe that is what our country deserves at this point.

After all, what president EVER had as many crises to deal with as President Bush has had? Of course, he has made mistakes. But, in spite of what the liberal media is reporting, we are not in a recession.

Yes, high prices are affecting everyone, but in spite of the liberal rhetoric that places all blame for everything since the beginning of history on President Bush, he didn’t create that problem.

There have been years and years of presidents coming and going, both Democratic and Republican, who had warning after warning of the need to begin developing new energy strategies, all to no avail.

Now that there IS a huge crisis, it is popular to dump all the blame on President Bush.

We have had the Democrats in power in Washington, D.C. for over two years now. What have THEY done to help the economy, the gas crisis, the so-called recession? What is their great new plan to make us an energy-independent nation?

And prior to the early ‘90s, the Democrats were in control in Congress for over 40 years. What did they do to contribute to the problems that President Bush is now having to take the blame for?

And maybe there would have been no need to spread our military troops so thinly in so many places if Bill Clinton had done anything at all when terrorism affected us during his years of leadership.

Does anyone remember the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the attacks on our embassies, the U.S.S. Cole, etc.? Does anyone remember when Clinton had Osama bin Laden practically in his hands, and he did nothing at all except let him go?

Secondly, I am offended that Sallie wrote her whole column apparently just to make fun of and slander President Bush. Most of the column was concerning his sometimes mangled misuse of words. I am sure we all, even Saint Sallie, are guilty of exactly the same thing in our lives at times.

But we don’t have video/audio equipment recording our gaffes for posterity. Since when did it become a national pastime to make fun of the most powerful leader of the free world?

There used to be and still should be a respect for the position, even if you don’t like the person. What happened to that powerful feeling of patriotism and “pulling together” that used to describe our great nation?

It has now been replaced by “me-ism” — what I want, what I need, what I will do to get what I want/need; very little ethics or values involved.

A country such as ours has become will not remain the most powerful nation, nor will it forever remain free. I would much rather have a president leading my country who at least is concerned at all times with what our nation faces, not one who is plotting his next sexual tryst with a young intern.

Lastly, I feel safe with President Bush as my leader, and I will feel safe with John McCain as my leader. I FEAR for Obama to be my leader. He may be likable and dynamic, but he is inexperienced and so naive sometimes as to be dangerous for our freedom. How about a little more respect in the future, Sallie?

I read your response to USArmybrat, how funny!

Mr. Clinton did not do a thing for our country but make it a disgrace.

His not doing his job caused alot of people to loose their lives on 9-11.

You are so wrong, President George W. Bush is a president to be proud of.

I guess you think adultery is okay. Well, that okay if that is your opinion. I don't think it right to hurt your husband or wife. The real world is love your husband or wife.

Nowhere did I say that I condoned adultery. I have never committed adultery, never intend to commit adultery, nor do I condone lying, or a multitude of other sins. If you want to place blame for 9/11 look no farther than GWB who had received information about the terrorists who later were on those planes. He ignored the information. At least when Clinton was in office we were respected by other countries. We are not only not respected now but are despised by many countries and have been made to look like fools. Do you do much reading? Do you keep up with current events?Do you know what is going on in our country, in the world?

Lied to the American people about a country possessing and ready to use weapons of mass destruction and requiring immediate invasion.

Opened the USA to massive deficit spending about $750 Billion borrowed from China to pay for a war in a country that was no threat to us and no way related to the 9/11 bombings.

Open the US Treasury to his corporate cronies, in which Corporate profits have soared, while the well being of the average American family has plummeted and every other economic indicator has declined.

For his crimes, George W. Bush defile the office of President more than Bill Clinton did and deserves impeachment.

What Bill Clinton did was brought up during the impeachment process in the US Senate, and it was handled there. My point is still that he did not let "mob rule" compromise the office by resigning. It is quite probable that George W profited from this stance. Bill Clinton was a good president, and did what the job description required, whether you like that fact or not.

Which one of these two liberal democrat disasters will prevail? Clinton, possibly the worst President in U.S. history, or Osama Obama, the highly touted most liberal senator in the senate. This nation is on a collision course with socializm and either of the two will gladly lead us there.Of course, Bill can no longer accomplish this himself, but his blushing bride certainly can. Don't be suprised to see Willie and Hil in Denver, nor be suprised at what they will attempt to pull off on their new friend Obama.

I believe most people would take Clinton's gallavanting in the Oval Office, over Bush's ruining the country any day.

Clinton never had a Sewage Plant named after him, like the folks in Calif. want to rename in honor of George.
Bush is so hated right now, that he has become a laughing stock:

"The measure certified Thursday would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind.

This just shows how scientifically uneducated the far left really is. Wastewater treatment plants benefit all Americans by treating pollution and releasing much cleaner water into our nation's rivers and streams.

America's water treatment and wastewater treatment plants do far more for the HEALTH of this nation than our entire medical apparatus. Why? Water pollution kills millions of people around the world. Waterborne diseases (think cholera) are a far more serious (and IMMEDIATE) threat than eating fried foods or smoking.

If I were President Bush I would make a speech (preferably to the American Society of Civil Engineers) and acknowledge the unintended, honor the radical Bush-haters have bestowed upon him.

Why did you not address any of them?

The tired "tax cuts make income" argument? When has a Republican cut taxes and the deficit at the same time Armybrat? Let's talk reality not theory. The growth in the deficit is in this President's lap. It has NOTHING to do with The Speaker of the House. President Bush put this unregulated economic feeding frenzy for corporations in motion, and we are reaping what we are reaping.
This President had so much respect for the Office that he used it to fly to GA in 2006 and say "A vote for democrats is a vote for terrorists." Where IS the unity that once existed, Armybrat? This oil man President has "lead" a military campaign that seems to be perpetual; Since '02 we've been at it, yet Afghanistan is sliding backwards. Who's leadership is responsible? We have seen lists upon lists of intelligence personnel and military brass speak of this President's lack of inquisitiveness pre 9/11. Who's failure is that? We have seen his party, the party of *christiany values demonstrate much different values in deed. We have seen *fiscal conservatives spend like crazy and borrow instead of paying as they went. We have seen "strict constitutional constructionists" and "states' rights" types attempt to amend the constitution to reflect their views on homosexual marriage and attempt to usurp state's rights in the Schaivo case. Guess where President Bush stood on those issues?

As for the Iran hostage crisis, how many of those hostages lost their lives? We lost 8 brave men trying to rescue those hostages. How many men and women have we lost as we try to define exactly why we are in Iraq in the first place?

On the economy, we have a leadership void. As the dollar loses value globally (the Euro just hit a record 1.6 vs the dollar), Americans' income can't pace with inflation, and energy prices go through the roof, this president's leadership style is to tell us there is no problem. Mr. McCain seems to be following in that path, resignations not withstanding. So, Armybrat, as you show up to pledge allegiance to the GOP, what have they done for us lately, and how will history suddenly flip today's reality into a "great job Bush" recollection(notice I never even mentioned his "great job Brownie" moment)?

Cheers,

Kevin "Hack" King

When I started commenting originally,it was to Willa and her letter. I was only making a point about the way that Bush has been treated. I don't defend alot about his presidency, I just am so tired of the complete, over the top, intense ugliness that has been showered on him since 2000. I know that there is alot of that on both sides, but even with Clinton, it wasn't like this. And, please, I pledge allegiance to my flag and country, not to a party that I have become so disgusted with in so many ways. And, no I didn't go into alot of Birdman's comments because, to be honest, I didn't feel like wasting the time. Our country's political future is dismal. I have very little hope for us, Hack.

NOTHING I have said about Clinton can compare to the all out assault that has been going on since 2000 on Bush. Newspapers, T.V., magazines...it has been a barrage on him. It's almost comical how the libs will speak out and blame him for everything, even the weather! I'm not saying this because I support him, because I really haven't liked much of his presidency. I just think it has been ridiculous. It hasn't been on Bush's performance but has been very personal attacks.

That is my description of the administration of George W. Bush. There is no one to compare him to, other than him. I always give credit where it is due, but the most positive thing that I can think of that W has done was to pardon a thanksgiving turkey. In my opinion, of the 27% of the voting population that still support him, at least 20% must be those who are directly profiting from his policies, with the remainder's logic either missing or asleep.
Bonus question:
Would you tolerate George W teaching your child the English language?

Gore, a mostly "C" student at the prestigious St. Albans School, must have used that "affirmative action" to get into Harvard, also. His sophomore year his grades were lower than any semester from Bush's at Yale. His classmates remember him mostly eating, shooting pool, and smoking marijuana. He received a "D" in Natural Science (Man's place in nature)LOL! He only brought his grades up in his senior year by taking government classes and acing his senior thesis and avoiding all mathematics and logic. He then went on to Vanderbilt Divinity School where he received 5 F's in 8 classes in three semesters. He started Vanderbilt Law School but failed to finish that, too.

Check out GWB's new book, Convenient Falsehoods, that he has written as a reply to Gore's An Inconvenient Truth.

He states his thesis in the opening line:

"Global warming is a thing that warms the globe, but it is not caused by people who caused global warming. That is, if it is true that the globe is warming, then people are not warming it, but something other than people is causing the warming of the globe. The sun is warm, and the sun warms the globe. Further, there are no people on the sun because the sun is too hot for people to live there. So if the sun warms the globe and there are no people on the sun, then people do not warm the globe."

My mama taught me to always find something good about someone so here goes:
He would make a good stand up comic. I have seen him at press dinners etc, and his presentation and timing are good. I think it is only when he is trying to put a spin on something that he stammers and falters. Maybe his heart and mind (brain?)know what he is saying is wrong and has trouble transmitting to his lips.

While Mr. Clinton was playing with his toys. The enemies were had 8 years to plan how to attack us.

Honestly, I think some on here know the scare crow on "The Wizard of OZ". If they only had a brain.

As in the above comment when you said "George W. Bush is a Christian. You can't say he is your not God. He says he is." HUH? And by the way HUH is not another name I am posting under.

MYTMITE,
With some people, you have to read between the lines.
With bpr, you have to read between the WORDS!!

I needed those two laughs. I am finally catching up on all these "multiples" posting here. At first I thought there were just lots and lots of "odd" people. Now I am finding out that there are just a few "oddies" who post under many names. I will get the hang of it soon, I hope. Thanks again

Can I just second that motion? If you would just fix that one issue, I might could tolerate your rantings a bit better.
