A Terrorist Fist Jab?

Have you seen the flap over the current cover of The New Yorker?

Obama and wife are doing that fist bump thing in the Oval Office. He's wearing a turban. She's dressed as a militant, with an assault rifle slung over her shoulder. An American flag burns in the fireplace, which is under a portrait of Osama.

Not a few people charge that it is a smear tactic that perpetuates the absurd rumors that have been circulating, particularly on the internet. The Obama campaign doesn't like it. Even McCain said it was offensive.

The New Yorker defends it as obvious satire. And I am in their corner. Isn't it obvious that the real target here is people like the bubbleheaded bleach blonde on Fox who suggested that the "fist bump" was a "terrorist fist jab"?

I have to think that people on Obama's campaign are bright enough to understand the lampoon and probably see the humor. The worry must be over the realization that there are a lot of dumb people out there who cannot understand satire.

Boy, can I relate after my experiences on here. The worry is over the same mentality causing people to assume that the sort of religious satire that is published in places like The Door must come from an anti-Christian bias. Why, it's probably the same people who would complain to a person's employer.

The New Yorker cover

I saw it this morning. The joke is on the people who think it's the Obamas being satirized and not their critics. I'm not surprised that a number of Republican'ts just don't get it.

The editor of the New Yorker was trying to explain this on NPR today....I've always felt if you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.

You see, I've learned from our new friend, "Punisher," that blacks are simply inferior to whites. What is more, they are genetically hardwired for crime. Indeed, he even explained,

"Young black males who are intellectual [sic] ill-equipped to compete in a technological [sic] advanced society are going to turn to crime and will prey on the indulgences of society."

Now that I have been educated, I am worried about you. Does our politically correct government really let you sit behind the controls of those high-tech birds???!!!! And you a NEGRO?

Worse, if I remember correctly, you were involved in a "flyover" at Turner Field not too long ago. Was this not endangering the lives of all of those innocent people in the stadium--many of them white? Anything might have happened!!!
