Bond issue to be decided in Superior Court

A Fairburn man accused of murder for assaulting a Hampton man outside a Peachtree City nightclub June 28 will remain in jail.

Jeremy Scott, 22, of Elder Street, Fairburn appeared in Fayette County Magistrate Court Wednesday afternoon. Chief Magistrate Charles R. Floyd Jr. bound Scott’s case over to Superior Court, as magistrates by law cannot set bond for murder.

Scott is accused of striking a blow that knocked down Devan Abercrombie, 32, of Hampton outside The Red Room. Abercrombie’s head struck the pavement, knocking him unconscious.

A week later, Abercrombie had died in a downtown Atlanta hospital of a brain injury when he was taken off life support.

Scott is charged with murder and also aggravated assault in the case.

If anyone was at the Red Room and saw the fight and would be willing to talk to our lawyer, please email me at lauragblalock@yahoo.com. We are looking for the truth.

Like any good mother that teaches their child in a justly way
"IF you can't say something nice SHUT your mouth"
Like knowing the difference between right & wrong and
There are 2 sides to every story
BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH,
It’s in the hands of the courts from here... Just as we put our faith in God we must put it also in “OUR” justice system by remembering
YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

I'm glad that Mr. Scott is going to stay in jail, at least for a little while longer. Whether Devan's murder was intentional or not the fact remains that Devan is dead, he died from his injuries. Jeremy Scott caused those injuries. I have wondered if Mr. Scott feels any guilt, or if he even cares; even if it was an accident, Devan is dead, he's never coming back and Mr. Scott is responsible. And for the record, it doesn't matter to me what color Mr. Scott is, Devan loved everybody and would have been disappointed by the remarks regarding race, and for that matter, so am I. I don't believe race was involved until well after the incident.

I know this is two months late but this is ridiculous. You, Ms. SouthernBelle, are lying when you act like Devan could not have possibly provoked the altercation.

I hate how everybody is making Jeremy Scott seem like a terrible killer when really all he did was get in a bar fight. He might not have had the best judgement but Devan was no angel. I've witnessed first hand Devan being rude to people he hardly knew. He liked to talk trash to people. He also was a drug addict and has been for years and years. At 32, he had no car or job AND had a child that he should have been taking care of (but wasn't).

Let me ask you this, Ms. SouthernBelle- Was he able to work or did he just not feel like it? That answer says something about his character.

Everybody needs to know that Jeremy Scott has a son- As you can see from Laura's post. He was very active in his son's life. I am pretty darn sure he, his girlfriend, and son lived as a family in Fairburn.

I do not doubt that Devan was talking trash and deserved to be hit. People deserve to be hit sometimes. Nobody deserves to die. I can only assume Jeremy Scott did not mean to kill Devan.

If you ran a stop sign, hit someone by accident, and killed them- would you deserve to go to jail for life knowing that the only thing you meant to do was run that stop sign?

Let's face it. Jeremy and Devan were at the bar. They got in a fight. It happens all the time. It is a sad situation... But murder? Devan probably had serious drugs mixed with alcohol in his system and there is no telling how healthy Devan's body was after years and years of being a drug addict. I hope they gave Devan thorough tests before his cremation because for all anybody knows, he could have gone into seizures on his own. The punch probably just provoked it.

I would like to say I am the girlfriend and mother of Jeremy's child. Please note, the press does not release everything, and Jeremy has been fully cooperative. There is lots of stuff on here I could argue about, but please, out of the respect for our family, and Devan's, keep your negative comments and OPINIONS about what you THINK happened, to yourself.
We would like to wish our condolences to Devans family. For those of you who know Jeremy, please keep us in your prayers during this difficult time.

The press did release that Mr. Scott has cooperated. There are two sides to every story, and that's what I'm trying to say; I want ALL the facts, not the bits and pieces that have been gathered from various sources. The loss of Devan in my own life has been devastating. Devan was one in a million, and I think his death deserves to be dealt with in a respectful manner. I don't think I've made any negative comments. SouthernBelle, GRACE is a VIRTUE

You seem to have been a close friend of Devan and his family. I'm so sorry for his death and how it is now playing out. The pain can be numbing at times.

I hate to sound naive, but I must have missed something. Was the dinner request sarcastic or sincere? I'm just trying to figure it out. Somebody please explain!!! I'm lost!

My first thought was, "Hmmm, that was nice of him, but I'll have to pass." Did I take that the right way or did I get it all wrong???

It was sincere, but after I posted, I realized it was in bad test to request it in this blog.

I apologize.

It didn't occur to me that this was not the place for something like a dinner request. I missed the GRACE train today, too. **places back of hand to forehead in "woe is me" fashion, simulatenously wondering what was WRONG with my filter today.**

I have read all the remarks involved with this tread
and I can only give my condonlences to the many friends and family
of Devan. This indeed was a tragedy and I'm sure the accused didn't
know this was going to happen and is surely remorseful. But it did happen.. and regardless of the who, what, where, and how... there is a young man that has lost his life. And I can only feel for his family. God bless you and know there are people that didn't even know Davan.. but care and pray for you during this time in your life.
