Cart-car crash
Two Peachtree City teens escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when their golf cart pulled in front of an oncoming car on Peachtree Parkway, police said.

The 15-year-old driver and her 14-year-old passenger were both thrown from the cart as a result of the collision, and they suffered head injuries, according to the accident report filed by the Peachtree City Police Department. The two were trying to cross the parkway on a crosswalk for the path system when their cart was struck by a 1996 Toyota Corolla driven by Christopher S. Savage, 42, of Peachtree City, police said.

Although traffic was stopped in the right northbound lane on the parkway, the cart driver did not see the car approaching in the left northbound lane, police said. The car had slowed down to turn, fortunately, police said.

The cart driver, whose name was not released by police because she is a juvenile, is charged with failure to yield at a stop sign and violation of age restrictions for golf cart operation. Although 15-year-olds are allowed to drive a golf cart on their own, they cannot carry any passengers under the age of 14, which occurred in this case, according to data on the accident report.

Savage was not charged. Neither was the driver of a Fayette County school bus, which was struck by the cart after the cart collided with Savage’s car.

I live right off the Parkway, and folks use it for a raceway. We all know that our City if full of pedestrians, folks on bikes, and on golf carts. We need to slow down. Folks use Battery Way to cut through to Fishers Luck, and they drop the hammer. Why? It's not just kids either.

the 15 year old drivers...well most of them are immature and careless and dont think a golf cart crash can result in serous injury. but as a person who uses the paths everyday i see more senior citizens(golfers)or old people drive worse then any teenagers. older people just think that cuase they have more years of driving on them they think there crappy driving is the other persons fualt. Every time i come close to being hit by a golf cart its someone who looks over the age of 40. its not only the 15 year olds who drive "reckless" or to "fast".

You know what the difference is??? These "senior citizens" have a driver's license. Another thing is that no one, not children, not adults should be using neighborhoods as "short cuts." That is where I consider it to be wrong. There are so many cart paths in this city and there is one that runs right AROUND the neighboorhood that I reside (and this is the case most of the time) in, yet people think that it is ok to just drive right through our neighborhood which is not only lazy but disrepectful to the residents of my neighboorhood.

This is getting to be very serious! PTC needs to change the laws back to what they used to be (16 w/ a valid driver's license)to drive a golf cart. Not even 3 weeks ago an underage golf cart driver plowed into my car in my (private property) neighborhood and no one wants to take responsibility for what this child has done. He was not even ticketed for 1.tresspassing and 2.totalling my car. Now, I have no car to drive. This is ridiculous!! Why should a child be allowed to drive a golf cart(low emission VEHICLE!!!)if they cannot drive a car??? Please PTC, do something about this before you have something worse than this on your hands!!

Explain to me how a "golf cart" pulls in front of traffic. Are we so afraid to say that "the driver drove in front of traffic?"

Yea, like the golf cart was responsible. I don't think Munford is infected with this yet, but look at the AJC articles and see that SUV's caused something or another - as if the SUV's were the problem.

The anti-SUV agenda is coming from the leftover 1960's hippies who have to protest something, because they have too little to do and they have chosen big business, big oil and car manufacturers as their targets. Which actually means anti-america. That's my opinion, I welcome yours - unless you are a cat.
