Click HERE for our photo gallery from Friday's parade. Fayette residents lined south Peachtree Parkway Saturday morning to take in the annual spectacle that is the Peachtree City July 4th parade. Two of the most notable floats this year included a golf cart decked out like a tank and a large-scale rendition of Fayette County's downtown courthouse, the latter of which was on a float entered by sheriff's candidate Barry Babb. Babb of course wasn't the only candidate in the parade, as most of those hoping to be elected in the Tuesday, July 15 primary were in attendance with floats, stumping for votes. Peachtree City police also debuted the new design for their patrol cars at the parade. The Spirit of McIntosh Marching Band participated again this year, and other churches provided live music from their youth bands. Piedmont Fayette Hospital continued its tradition of handing out popsicles to keep spectators cool. Other floats followed suit this year. Immediately after the parade ended, public works crews started cleaning up the leftover mess, including candy and other trash left behind in the street and off the road in the grassy areas where spectators congregated. A large number of viewing spots were "saved" on the south end of the parkway by people who laid out tarps, chairs and the like. This is the first year in recent memory in which this tactic has been deployed to such a large extent, and it's a testimony to the popularity of the parade. login to post comments |
